It has to be done using Airport Utility. I had mentioned the steps for configuring from a Windows PC. Since you are using a Mac, you can use the following steps -
Open Airport Utility. To open Airport Utility, click Launchpad, put Airport Utility in the search box. Click Airport Utility to launch it.

Go to Internet tab. Connect Using = Static. IPV4 address = 192.168.3.1; Sub net mask = 255.255.255.255; Router address = 192.168.3.1; Click Update; This will set the IP address for the Airport Express.
Change Connect Using = PPPoE; Account Name = <your ISP ac name>; Password = <your isp password; do not leave blank>; Service Name = <leave blank>; Click Update;
Click Network; Router Mode = 'DHCP Only'; DHCP Range = 192.168.3.2 to 192.168.3.200; Click Network Options...; DHCP Lease = 1 day; Save; Click Update;
Click Wireless; Click Wire less options; You can select either of 802.11n only (2.4GHz) or 5GHz, if all you wireless clients are 802.11n compatible. Use 2.4GHz for slower speed and longer range; Use 5Ghz for faster speed and shorter range.

Let me know if it works.

I was able to do everything you listed except for the Router Mode to DHCP only - the Router Mode was Greyed out and I could not change it from DHCP & NAT.

That said, it seems to be working properly with PPPoE. I shall know in 24 hours whether it holds or if I need to login again somewhere. I shall keep you posted.

SHR, thank you for dumbing everything down to a layman's level and patiently leading me through the steps one by one. I am much obliged.

I wonder if the mods can make this solution a "sticky" for anyone else who's in the same boat as I, being a complete Apple-only household!

Cheers

You should not be using DHCP Only or Bridge mode for cable broadband (Like this ), as all ports will be open into ATC (Airport Time Capsule) on those modes. .
Now Did u check after 24hrs .. did it ask you login at-all ? As per shr update it shouldn't ask you login anytime as router wuld be doing it .
I am also looking for ACT , but was holding due to to this . Now Will try for ATC :) .
cheers

@shr and @krgaurav,

Update eight days after configuration: everything works fine, I did not have to login again. Speeds are good from all devices even while accessing simultaneously from all of them.

Thanks again to shr for his excellent guide.

Cheers

Now .. what IP you get from ACT .. is that public IP or Private IP . I mean Did u try NAttig with DDNS ?

OK, now you are asking me things way beyond my familiarity. I mean, I know what each of these terms means, but I have no idea how to check.

Cheers

I think he is basically asking is your IP address 10.X.X.X(private ip) or 106.X.X.X(public ip)?

You can go to portal.acttv.in and check.

If you are on pppoe, there are high chances that your IP is 10.x.x.x

I am in Chennai. I get a public IP through PPPoE, although my location is mostly shown as Bangalore and sometimes as Chennai. I am able to use DDNS. There are several users who have raised this issue in other threads. But things are going well for me at the moment.

Edit: Someone has said they are able to lock their Router MAC ID with ACT to get a public IP. That could be the last option if you continuously get a private IP assigned.

Thanks Gopichandpai.

@krgaurav, I am getting a 10.x.x.x series IP address when I go to portal.acttv.in However, when I go to whatsmyip.org, I get a 106.x.x.x IP address.

I do not know anything about DDNS or NATting.

Cheers
