But for some of the customers, 2G data plan was deactivated before activating 3G. Why not for every one as per their policy?

Its not the same in my case. When I sent "3G" to 121 again, I go the message that to reply back to this message with "1", u can access 3G at 30p/20 KB.As I had just recharged for 2G a week back, I was in no mood to lose 2G and browse at that amount.

Reply with 1 to activate 3G. I feel your 2G data plan will not be deactivated.

I think some of the 2G data users are under this 3G plan:

PAYG VBC (Pay as you go): For all existing airtel 2G customers who want to experience the power of airtel internet on 3G for a short while, this tariff plan is the solution. The customer will pay the same prevailing data rates as on 2G service, but with the advantage of a faster mobile broadband.

Got above info from airtel 3G says Vanakkam Chennai & Coimbatore

I want to migrate from Airtel to BSNL but the problem now is that I have high balance in the mobile and it will take atleast a month to use all of it :(

so replying with "1" will not deactivate my 2G plan?

Its really sad to see airtel changing policy on Handset offer. Earlier they said its applicable once 3G services are launched and now they quietly modified handset offer applicability to "The data offer is on GPRS/ EDGE"

The reply i got from airtel presence team to my query:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for writing to airtel

i m on a 3G with 34 rs pack............

This is with reference to your e-mail dated 13th January 2011 where in,
you have enquired about the 3G handset offer.

Please be informed that we at Airtel are in the process to provide the
3G services in India; however; still the 3G services have not commenced
in any part or portion of India. Once the same would get launched
officially, it would be communicated to you through electronic and print
media.

Hence, the 3G Handset offer will be applicable only after the official
launch of the 3G services.

You may send us an e-mail directly at [email protected]
towards the
concern highlighted.

We assure you the best of our services.

Regards

If this offer is applicable to EDGE then wtf its called as 3G handset offer?:@

Probably they meant '3G Handset' - Offer and not 3G data offer

so replying with "1" will not deactivate my 2G plan?

That's what happened with me. My 6 days 35Rs, 500MB pack got auto renewed yesterday.

i m on a 3g with 34 rs pack..i.e 500 mb and speeds are not that great......

most of the time inactive with full signal bar

@donthave
Why dont you try activating 3G service? You may also enjoy 2G data plan for some time on 3G n/w. Also note that you may deactivate 3G any time by sending an sms as "3G" to 121.

I still don't know why airtel is showering so much love on me by entitling me to use 2G data pack on 3G network.

I do not get good 3G signals at my home.
Even with 2 bars, i get over 1.5Mbps speed and in some cases its touching 4Mbps +.

34Rs pack is older one. Now 35Rs will entitle you to use 500MB in 6 days.
I faced an issue reported by you only once when i was not able to download a single byte of data even with full signal bars.

@dhananjay As i said, I sent the message '3G' to 121 to activate. Then i got the above said message that I will access at 30p/20KB, I thot i better use my 2G which is cheaper. If u r sure that I will be using my 2G limit for that, I will go ahead.
