yes chromamaniac is right, droping revenue margins is the reason. NSN has outsourced it to 3rd party and operators are struggling to keep network flawless. equipments are good though. Ericssson is excellent. Airtel 2G network in karnataka is on Ericsson. though its more than 10 yr old network but still the best

BTW, any user experience from Airtel kolkatta? i didn't hear anybody using the service

Thing is that, new network devices are being imported from China or manufactured more economically by Chinese Vendors like ZTE/Huawei. So, it would become better to involve these vendors into their product only. Regarding Maharashtra and Rest of India, 2G network had been rolled out mostly by Nokia-Siemens & Ericsson for all operators.

With nsn acquiring Motorola's networks equipment division , I'd thought they were top notch . :P@IMBut then Chinese equipment isn't exactly great, right ?

@IM

Yes bro. I recently saw an case study explaining why 3G speeds are pathetic in India and all bcoz of cheap Chinese hardware. Unfortunately I wasn't able to read the full article due to some busy schedule but summary is Chinese equipment are cheap and easy to install but not upto mark.

MTNL is entirely different thing. They are not properly maintained and thats the reason other telcos earned and grown so much in India.

3G speeds are not entirely bad in india though, same is the case in AT&T US as well. my cousin says during business days, speed never crosses beyond 3 mbps. well, they never saw 21 mbps as well. speeds are great only in european countries like denmark, sweden, poland, france
