Whoa, what's going on with Airtel here? Have they lost their mind??So they get Rs.999+tax and PROMISE me unlimited usage @384kbps right? Now how in the hell do they figure that I "abuse" (or, "hug", to use their term) bandwidth when I am using what I was promised? Is it just me or could it be that they are backing down from their claims? Godamned Airtel must've known what plans their infrastructure can support before promising a speed and not make promises(I mean the TOS) they can't keep.OK, **it happened. We have a relatively short data cap beyond which we will experience a speed cap. Now comes another interesting part of pro-rating.That is, if I am going to be limited to speeds belonging to a plan lower than mine, how about charging me at the rate for that plan for the duration of the bandwidth limit? For example, if I reach my 25GB cap at the middle of the month, then, shouldn't my bill be for ((15 days * rate_of_384kbps_plan)+(15 days * rate_of_256kbps_plan)) ?If there was a network failure for a considerable amount of time, we can ask for downtime credit, can't we? Perhaps we ought to demand credit for the 128kbps bandwidth that we "lost" (384 minus 256), huh?Sorry for the rant, but can't help it :@

it's a serious issue. when they provide me unlimited broadband for a particular speed at a cost, they have to deliver it to me. they are the one setting the price on the service. we are paying for what they are asking for. it's not like bandwidth has become whole lot expensive in the past month or so that they are facing issues out of their hands. nothing has changed internationally. in fact, broadband should have gone cheaper in so many years they have been charging the same price for the same packages.

PIL on Airtel?

I do not think PIL works this way.
Yea.. Whatever works.. Sue them :P We should at least start by sending mass emails to them.

Problem is in India there is no organisation/union/Association who is working to protect/fight for the rights of broadband users. and the only one who seems to regulate (TRAI) is too unaware of our problems and really doesnt care much about us either.I just wish there was one.

MTNL, Govt based ISP sends me a pamphlet every month saying "Heavy downloaders switch to unlimited plans" and now they think unlimited plan users download too much....interesting

Airtel has taken this step not because of TRAI recommendation but totally because of commercial reasons and to save bandwidth they pay for.I am sure other isp must be keeping close eye on the responses so its important that we (all broadband users, not just airtel) protest against the policy strongly or else others will follow suit.

This is totally unfair infact illegal to change the terms of a plan for current customer without the consent of users. So I suggest we do following

1)Airtel users - if your speeds get downgraded, only play according to the speed u get (if ur speeds get downloagraded from 512 to 256 on 15th, pay 1/2 month @ 512 and rest @ 256 + 12.2% tax).THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

2)All users should email airtel in their own words and make it clear that this is totally unfair, and airtel users should threaten to change ISP.

3) Join the narrow airtel broadband group on facebook

I would say lets all email Mumbai Mirror or some newspaper, this issue should be splashed into media. We can't just let it happen. If Airtel does it today then I'm sure some other ISP will follow and continue this tradition.

This is so messed up.:wall:

EDIT- Put all your grievances on this site (department of telecommunications) as it will only take 2 mins of your time ----> http://pgportal.gov.in/

Guys I think it has primarily been done for the folks donwloading and selling pirated CDs in the market. Those chaps suck the complete bandwidth and genuine internet users like us have to suffer.

:hysterical:

Another one without a clue.

I still can't get any confirmation about this policy from Airtel.

I know for sure that they have rolled this out to Karnataka. I was also told that this will be a contrywide policy so I think it's just a matter of time it reaches you. If it's only for Karnataka, well then we know where to move out of!
