I don't think we can compare what Comcast is doing in US to what Airtel is doing in India for the following reasons:
[*]Like it or not but India is a developing country. There is a reason we have DoT and TRAI and policies which need to be in favour of emerging broadband scenario.
[*]Comcast lives in US - the home of capitalism, there is a reason we are not like US. If there is regulation here, we also don't have FCC here and hence these companies like Airtel can get away with murder! 10 GB, are you fu**ing kidding me??
[*]Comcast is one of the most hated brands in the US for the very same reason and people are flocking to other options wherever they can
[*]DoT and TRAI and India in general has not done anything to bring the price of entry for ISP down and hence create a marketplace were every user has a choice of atleast 3-4 types of wired broadband. Take BSNL for example - the lead time is atleast 1-2 months in Bangalore to get a new connection and they are owned by the state!
[*]There are ISPs in the US which are implementing technologies which makes the torrents look for peers first in it's own country and if you don't find peers there, it would go abroad looking for peers. This reduces dependance on SeMeWe kinda cables in a world where torrent traffic is the largest on the internet. Where are the thought leaders here implementing such ideas?
[/list]No, Airtel hasn't even scratched the surface of options available to it to manage it's network better instead of introducing such archaic policies which show the lack of technical leadership there. I hope they rot in hell!

Broadband is so expensive here in india that renting server space here turns out to be as expensive as getting a cheap dedicated server abroad.
I had love to host the forum in India, but really, no affordable hosting exists.

I see a lot of like minded people here. How about we organise meetups in our respective cities where we can physically meet, over some beer maybe and strategise on how we can take the protest forward. We'll setup an agenda for this meetup and make sure we get the required work done before we get drunk and go around the city painting graffiti on every Airtel sign later - hehe.
But seriously though, a loose agenda can be as follows:

[*]What is the official escalation path
[*]What is our communication plan to reach out to more people to make them aware of such policy
[*]How will we take it up with TRAI etc, maybe assigning city wide leaders
[*]What are our options - "Jaago Grahak" or any other similar campaign

Just like when ISPs say "..speed upto 512kbps.." the speeds rarely reaches 512kbps. Bloody capitalists.

discussing comcast here makes no sense. my friend & i were discussing the trains being late in india. he said that "even" in london, underground trains are late by about 20-30 mins. i said what difference does that make. if something thats incorrect in the west that doesnt mean the isp's here too can copy them blindly.

I think it's time for a signature campaign. We should all get the signatures of everyone who has an airtel connection and send mass mails to airtel threatening to surrender our connections. Only when each of us is able to get multiple signatures and Airtel sees its market share decrease will they do something
