Is Airtel bound by contractual obligations to provide the same service at the same price continously to its unlimited plan customers ?

If YES....find a good laywer and file a case in the consumer court.
If NO...find an alternative ISP who can provide what you want

Good question :)

of course they have a right to do what they are doing. but it's our right to tell them that they are wrong and as a customer i have a choice to discard them and move to a rival service.

Are you implying that Airtel is not bound by the contract here ?

AFAIK they can change the terms & conditions when they like so feel you are correct :(

Great work

I think we can do without the line:
"We shall initiate all legal action against you in the competent courts of law, solely at your risk, costs and consequences"

AFAIK after reading the terms and conditions return on the back of the Airtel braodband form I have, they can change any thing citing any reasons.

It is ethically very very wrong, but legally within the contract we sign with them.

cant agree more man, precise language and upto the point.. Ive already started inquiring about plans from other isps. Lets see if i get some thing similar in Bsnl or Tata with same quality.

also i may start getting broadband bill refunds from my company so i may take tata 2Mb unlimited.

we may not be able to take legal action on them for breach of contract, since it' is clealry in their favour at all times. they can be taken out in the consumer court, where such contracts are of lesser importance and 'deficieny of service' can be a big point, especially coz they've reduced the speeds by half. their early claims that it was a trai mandate can also be a troubling point. additionally, we have taken 'broadband connection' from them and now they have changed it to 'internet connection' , which is a major change in service parameters. TRAI is very silent on this. perhaps sleeping on a full stomach.

Well, I dont know how Tata broadband works in your area, but I have used both their wired broadband and wimax in Bangalore for a year and was very very disappointed. The wire of their wired line gets cut off by miscreants and server remains down every now and then. Thier Wimax service has improved in the last 2 months, but there are lots of slow speed and no connectivity issues I faced here in Bangalore. Had to contend with them as there was no other operator in my area at that time. Except BSNL which I dint have the time to run after.

I suggest you ask some users in your area if TATA provides good service in your area or not.

I have friends in Bangalore who have taken the tata WiMax connection in Bangalore and are getting measly download speeds of 10-12 KBps. They are located in the BTM Layout area BTW. So i advise you not to go for that, instead try out Reliance WiMax.

Airtel is taking undue advantage as it feels there is no better ISP than itself, so the exisiting customers will only shout and rant but will not leave airtel
