hi, im on the Turbo 1299 plan- Day 512/Night 1 Mbps . i have a question regarding FUP for this plan- is FUP for this plan 100 GB and does that include both download\upload data or only the download data is counted?

theoritically 100GB FUP is there and its counted only for day time 6am to 10 pm
just a rough calculation
you can dl 3.8GB per day on day time 6am to 10 pm

that amounts to 114GB for a month this is if u dl 24x7

although it got 100GB FUP it doesnt have any effect

Regards

hi,raj .thanx for the quick reply. i have some questions -

1. r u using this plan also and has ur speed been reduced if u crossed 100 GB?

2. im still confused whether 100 GB includes both down\upload data or only the download data?

3.u also mentioned that 100GB Fair Usage Policy is there and its counted only for day time 6am to 10 pm - is this true ?

well, i dont download anything during daytime,simply because after 10 pm my download speed increases by double, so it takes less time to download at night as compared to day time. also to give u an example in past 12 days i have downloaded 51 GB and uploaded 15 GB.

100GB fair usage is applied to day time usage only
so even if u use 24 hr and 30 days it wont reach 100Gb with speed 512kbps!!!

Ohh... now I understand why I haven't crossed my FUP in this plan. My download+upload is around 190GB during last 1.5 months.

I had 384kbps unlimited; in May, i received a paper with the April bill that the airtel has upgraded it to 512kbps;
but I checked my speed through two websites; airtel itself and speedtest; they both showed i have 256 kbps;
I called the airtel, they said that you have reached the download limit, so your speed with be half;
I told them that i have unlimited plan, but they answered that ACTUALLY, THE UNLIMITED IS NOT UNLIMITED; If i use more than 10Gb ( download limit for 284 kbps ) the speed will become half; WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN ????????????? :@:@:@:@

if unlimited is not really unlimited why do they call it unlimited and why should i pay for a plan that is not unlimited more than others tat are limited !!!

AND, i checked it through airtel website, my account; it showed that i have only used
6.6 GB, but he told me that it is not true, i have checked it here, it shows that you have used more than 10GB; I said there is a mistake because i went to a trip for 10 days, i wasn't at home;BUT he again said, no, the machine doesn't make any mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!
:readtherules::readtherules::readtherules::readtherules::readtherules:

One more thing; with this shit rule; which unlimited is fakely unlimited;
384 kbps, download speed should be 48 kbps ( which is not )
31 days for may * 24 hours a day * 60 minutes an hour * 60 seconds a minute * 48 kbps = 82,944,000 = 83 GB, which means :
i should be able of downloading 83 GB per month with this plan; :readtherules::readtherules::readtherules::readtherules:
WHY THEY ARE PUTTING A LIMIT FIRSTLY,
SECONDLY, WHY IS THE LIMIT ONLY 10GB ?????

pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee someone answer me

is that really a rule you have in this country and no one is saying anything;
is this with all the companies, airtel, tata, .....

It's called Fair Usage Policy. If you read the forums first before ranting, you would have been slightly more enlightened.

So, you have all accepted this and no one said anything;they are lying, like in day, they say its night and no one says anything;They should say the truth that there is no UNLIMITED PLAN at the first time, not at the end

you are ignoring something. these plans are still 'unlimited' tata actually requires you to move to an expensive package if you reach their specified limits. you can deal with it coolly or you can just shout about it. airtel has FUP on almost all of their plans. if you do not like it, switch to bsnl or any other ISP. best way to answer the company.

The word unlimited with almost all ISPs in India - and indeed many ISPs in many countries outside of India - is nothing more than a marketing ploy. In India, Airtel are fairly notorious for having started this trend and being one of the most obvious about what they are doing.

While the plan is still unlimited, they really mean "use as much as you like, but don't saturate the line 24/7" - if you had an unlimited electricity connection, would you leave all of your lights and appliances on 24 hours a day? Maybe not. Or if you had unlimited phone, would you be on the phone 24 hours a day? I doubt that you would do that either.

In some ways, an FUP is good - bandwidth is much more expensive in India than a large number of countries (mostly in Europe and North America of course), so reducing the speed after your "fair use" allows ISPs to mitigate the economic effects of people who do want to utilize the line 24/7.

In other ways, an FUP is bad because in India they are usually quite restrictive and poorly implemented and are usually nowhere even close to the cost parity as I know the costs of wholesale bandwidth and building a network to be.

In fact in some cases the large ISPs are making close to 300% when we count the amount of GBs on offer... but they have other costs which I don't take in to account as much for my company (large amounts of TV airtime, large workforce, building $100 million tech-parks all over the place to house said workforce), but then some of their direct costs would be cheaper... you know, owning the international infrastructure and all, their per-GB price is bound to be better than mine :D

The overall problem is more of a marketing one than anything else: use of the word "unlimited" implies unlimited usage. In my country (New Zealand), they couldn't say that, they had to use "flat-rate", which refers only to the price - the ISP usually states fairly prominently that they have the right to implement traffic shaping during certain times of the day and so forth, which they do, very heavily.

We take the same approach as the Kiwis in our marketing (as I am one) but as of now the GB limit at which we might consider throttling the speed of a customer is merely hypothetical :)

In other words, I agree for the most part with what you say:
They should say the truth that there is no UNLIMITED PLAN at the first time, not at the end

Airtel seriously are playing games with us.. today itself it says for me that i have finished my limit i got double speed for like 12 hours approx i doubt its able to reach 10gb limit with 512kb speed in 12 hours.. they are trying to fool usdoes bsnl have fair usage policy too ??

If you can show some proof that your connection has not transferred anywhere near 10GB (in one day? not likely! You'd need 24 hours and a 1Mbit/s connection to do that)... then you'll always be right.

And yes, BSNL has FUPs these days.
