they have killed all their old plans. and only a few are lucky enough to still get the original plans with original FUPs. most of us were migrated to newer plans with shittier FUPs.

i would suggest you to migrate to either the 1999 or 2099 plans.

Yeah, but I think they will migrate the plan only at the start of next billing cycle which is 26th. And it will be a pain to have only 256kbps for another 20 days!:sad (2):

Right now, 2mbps - 150GB plan costs only Rs. 1999/- and but I am still paying Rs. 2999 /- for only 100GB. They didn't reset the tariff but they reset the post-FUP speed to 256kbps. How fair is that?

^.. Migrate to 150GB limit plan.. there is no point waiting or asking for an explanation from them.. We have to suffer till other affordable options are available..

TRAI makes rules for such cheap companies to earn more.

Actually TRAI is a puppet of the big cartel of AIRTEL + TATA + Reliance. I am sure they are filling their coffers from monies received from these telecom companies & hence they are always ignorant to the broadband scene... All they do every six months is to shed false tears that broadband penetration is low & should be increased... I am following this since the last 3 years through various consultation papers released by them.. Never they come up with something concrete...

It is not fair. But the fact remains that they do not care at all. They are complacent today with little to no competition in most parts of the country where they are offering their services. Terms and conditions give them the power to change your plan when they want as they want. You can probably take them to court for changing a plan without alerting you about it. But it is not really going to help at all. Just apply for a plan change so that you pay less per month for a much better plan. Of course, you would no longer have unlimited 1mbps speeds (post FUP on your old plan).

Yes, I am going to apply for a plan change. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a better alternative for Airtel at the moment. In my opinion, they should have peak time and off-peak time when they calculate the data usage for FUP. :-/

They are not going to do that.. they know that there is no other viable alternative for them in India when it terms to network coverage & reliability. That's why they are all out to milk the customer for the last penny spent...

Well, I've decided to shift to MTNL, because:

It gets better and better - FUP limits are now reduced - from 100GB to 10GB in stages, and the speed post FUP is 256kbps, there is not a single plan with them that has higher speed post FUP. So I'm shifting to MTNL which gives 1Mbps unlimited for 1100 (including taxes) as compared to my Airtel F**** Plan which costs 1200, gives me 2Mbps for 10GB and promptly reduces bandwidth by 7/8ths or 87.5%. The supreme irony is that Sunil Mittal gives public Gyaan on Internet penetration and how it will help India develop. Sunil Mittal - I can tell you what to do with Airtel Broadband (not very polite)......

Moronic conversations follow once you apply for disconnection from Airtel, they have the gall to suggest that they are doing this as per TRAI guidelines. I told them tell me the link where this information could be found, long pause after this.
The funny thing is that their page - FAQ on FUP has totally different limits :airtel Broadband Internet: FAQ for FUP

Another unique feature of Airtel - The phone number to the Nodal officer connects to their 121 IVRS system; his mail bounces.

They seem to have a bunch of over smart guys coming up with these plans - somebody rightly commented that the "Impatience Plans" are just that - you tear your hair out in Impatience post FUP, hahahhaa

Happy to report that have shifted to MTNL, I called up MTNL, 011 22221500 slightly sleepy lady took my request (it sounded like she yawned a couple of times) on a holiday - 6 Oct.

The next day someone called me and came over, filled in the paperwork, photo id and residence proof is required, took Rs. 500, apologized that the next day was a Second Saturday - a holiday for MTNL boffins?? and said the connection would be given Monday, and that there would probably be a delay of a day or two to enable broadband.

He wanted to know whether I needed a modem, said no, was happy with my Netgear and would configure the modem myself - he was happy and sounded relieved to hear that, apparently that is the biggest pain point for them - getting a technician to program the ADSL login on a modem/router. So moral of the story, learn how to administer the modem/router yourself in case you haven't, yet.

On Sunday afternoon, believe it or not, someone calls me up from MTNL, asks if I applied for a connection, and goes over a general history of connections in the house, there were two MTNL connections earlier, now down to one (Oh, I forgot to mention - if you are serious about the DSL, please apply for a new connection - that is only way you get new wiring and stuff, the old line is something I do not use, will be disconnecting soon), the person promises that the connection will be in place on Monday, I thank him, end of conversation.

Come Monday, past afternoon, and no sign or news of MTNL, and I think to myself - "looks like the dream is over - MTNL is going to shaft me after all...." and call up the number which called me Sunday, and they ask about my address and then tell me that the connection is on their to do list and they have already sent out their people, I think to myself "Aha, standard Delhi reply - on their way, anytime now; it's not happening unless they land up......"

Around 1630, I figure nothing is going to happen, so call again, again, I'm told that they're on their way, all I want to know is if it is likely to happen today.... I am told that it will happen.

1645 - two MTNL linemen land up, and 1715, the phone is working and they call their boss - Mr. Supervisor and I thank him and ask when the broadband would be enabled, he says it already is enabled, and gives me the CA # which is the password for DSL, the phone # is the username. He asks about modem, I say Netgear - he says he does not think that will work, I tell him not to worry - it's not his problem, and 1745 after seeing off the linemen, closing doors to service lane and generally getting back to my semblance of normalcy, I'm on MTNL!

I do not think that I will ever revert to Airtel - their claim to fame is their "service" but commercial policies also constitute service - and this shifting of goalposts on FUP is to put it mildly - a rip off - one feels - how does one put it politically correctly? molested?? It does not matter what users do, when you agree to a speed - in my case 512 that should be the minimum, I did not ask them to go to town with Congo drums telling everyone about how they "doubled" speeds, hell, I would be satisfied with one constant speed, and it really feels like the tap run dry in the middle of shower when they apply FUP.

For those who believe the claptrap about their altruistic claims about doing it for "all users", believe me - when you start thinking about watching Youtube videos, start tearing your hair out on Google image searches (like for example, to help with a child's homework....) or whatever, speed matters, and to all those who think otherwise, one might argue, does the internet really matter???

I think I've gone on for too long now, but am seriously ticked off with Airtel ethics.

^... Congrats.. MTNL is a good option for AIRTEL 'coz atleast their plans are not fooling the customer.

Been there done that... I know how frustrating it is to wait for that video to buffer & then play... total waste of time.. Can't work on multiple tabs as well :(

Earlier, Airtel had an advantage: serviceRecent experiences show that Airtel service is worse than BSNL now, so no point in paying the premium for Airtel

i also decided to go for bsnl too, the FUP is totally FUPed up! i cant use 256 anymore its just too slow i wanted a 512kbps constant. The only plan they have is for 1299 without tax after tax it comes to about 1450. Bsnl offers same speed for 750. Doesnt make economic sense. I know bsnl is not great for service but atleast they dont blindly rip off their loyal customers. Airtel at one point was the best broad band provider, now with torrent capping, screwed up FUPs they are just being run by MBAs with only money in their eyes and no vision!
