I'm getting an FTTH Upgrade tomorrow from Airtel. I got the call from airtel executive and as per our conversation. They offer 40Mbps - Rs.1499 - 125GB. I forget to ask about after FUP speed ( wheteher 512 kbps or 1 mbps) . I asked about download and upload speed and it was 20Mbps download and 10 Mbps for upload. I'm yet to test it and I will update the thread once I got it.

Also they are replacing the old modem with Huawei modem for 40Mbps and the deal is I need to pay Rs.200 for 5 months.

I don't think it's FTTH. Have they laid new optical fibre cables in your area? BTW, which area are you at?

I think they're only offering VDSL using the existing copper wire. I was also told that I'll have to pay Rs. 200 in 5 installments for the modem.

I got the call on 7th and was told that the migration will happen within 48 hours. It hasn't happened as yet.

Anyone let me know what are all the settings for VDSL modem? Cos my plan got changed and they have provided the modem but still it is not yet setup.

Are you sure it's VDSL? Airtel keeps referring to it as Fibernet, but after reading the above posts I'm starting to wonder. VDSL does seem to have decent upload speeds, so hopefully shouldn't be too far off from Fiber.

On a side note, has anyone in Chennai actually got these high speed plans running or is it on paper only?

I am not received these plans yet.Requested on Sept 1st. Reasons they are saying for delay Port migration is not done ,Modem is not available,etc...Customer care people are saying Connection is FTTH with vector modem.Local installation teams are saying VDSL modem with same copper cable..!

VDSL will use your existing phone line.
FTTH will use a fibre optic cable to your residence. We can assume that this is Fibernet.
Customer care, unfortunately, is not very reliable with actual details.

So, they will need to 'migrate' your port and you will need a new modem.

Vectoring is VDSL tech. They probably mean FTTC. VDSL has a much shorter range, so fiber is brought to a junction box on your street, and from there its copper to your house.

Edit:
I think Airtel is having trouble figuring out their own 'open' network.
I just received a mail from Airtel 121 saying I've been migrated to the 40Mbps plan and they asked me to reboot my ADSL modem for the speed changes

Though not Chennai, my connection is Gurgaon based, I am on Rapid 1799 with 40Mbps and 150GB data, below is a screenshot of the speed I get on my FTTH connection

Airtel FTTH is supposed to be symmetric. This is what I get on my 16Mbps connection:

That is what should be the case, but like I mentioned before, they don't officially quote their upload speeds or the fact that is it symmetic anywhere.

Upload seems to be 1024 kbps. Being fiber plans, it should have been 4 mbps up (can stream the game Overwatch in 720p with 4mbps up).
