Of course, it could very possibly be that none of my above assumptions are true, and airtel guys will find about this little trick that I'm pulling on them through me, I thought that I may still get to be the one who'd make them improve their servers so that other users won't have to restart their modems at all !! :)

Shut up, already. A number of users are onto this; many of whom frequent this forum, I'm sure. And we've kept our silence. Can't you do the same?

Ideally, the mod should just delete this thread!

I don't know what's pissing you off more - fear that airtel will find about it and correct it - or envy that more users will start exploiting it.I wrote that my assumptions may not be true just for the sake of neutrality. If you don't take that "improve-their-servers" thing for granted and for just once focus on that all of this can NOT be unknown to airtel people, you'll see the bigger picture.Anyways, if people still think that this *is* their little "secret" then I wouldn't want to be a snitch who's exposing it to airtel.

hai. i have airtel broadband with wifi my modem is 450bx but in my airtel netexpert software it shows 220 bx. hw to change the settings and will it affect the performance?

I have a night unlimited plan (8pm - 8am). For past few months, i'm noticing that if I dont retstart modem after 8am, then whatever I download till around 11am, doesnt gets counted in my day usage. One logical explaination that i can think of is that their servers dont restart untill 11, till then acording to them, i'm still on my 8pm session (when i last restarted my modem) which is counted as night time - i.e. free time

Are you still getting this? In my case, since the last couple of days, it looks like this loophole has been plugged.

Happy new year guys.
@Gamik, sorry for late reply but yeah I'm still getting it.
The bug is still there, I just don't exploit it much now because I started downloading entire day and one time during the day, my connection did get reset but IP remained same (very rare but still possible). Got ripped off big time - legally, but managed to talk myself out of the huge bill by playing dumb-arrogant-connection-surrendering-customer. Since then I'm only using this exploit for browsing purposes.

Off-topic: Sometime back, I used conky in linux to display a smiley face if the IP was same as night-session's IP to indicate that I can browse for free; a frown otherwise. Bottom right corner, under the Network column, besides the IP address : Link.
I lost my script (backup is for pussies /s) and remembered that I posted it here earlier. So came looking for it; that's why the delay.
Anyways the bug is still there, but there's a possibility that you'll get the same IP address even after your session resets, so be cautious.
BTW, does anyone happen to know whether the wifi router has crontab ? If the router itself can be scripted to reboot at night it'd be way better to leave it on inverter so that it never resets session except at night. Just a thought.

i stick to unlimited for a reason. i know what i would pay at the end of the month. downloads can take their own time. i am in no hurry. life is very long and pretty boring.

Same here. :|

Same here. :|

Ya i would have to agree here. Life has really become pretty boring. Plus these newer geenrations take competition to such a great height that the boredom multiplies. The unlimited bb is a means and not an end to cope with the boredom.
