I have also noticed this thing as the battery life of my phone has become less after porting to Reliance from Vodafone. And for 2 days recently I had to use my mom's Vodafone SIM and the battery life seemed as good as it used to be before porting to Reliance.
True. I used to get much better battery life on Loop. Can't go back to 2G, though :D

How to prove that battery lasts longer in Airtel network under same conditions.
  1. Pick two identical brand new mobiles (with same manufacturing batch number)!
  2. Put Airtel SIM in one and Put Vodafone SIM in other
  3. Charge them fully
  4. Pick a location under Airtel tower - make sure Vodafone tower is reasonably far!
  5. Download 2GB file from same URL at same time
  6. Airtel downloads the file in 2hrs then put phone aside (idle - Keep 3G ON)
  7. Vodafone takes 3hrs then put phone aside (idle - Keep 3G ON)
  8. Vodafone battery reaches 0% after 10 hrs
  9. Airtel battery reaches 0% after 12.5 hrs
Hence proved that under same conditions (same mobile model, same battery, same URL, SAME GEO-LOCATION) - Battery lasts 25% longer under Airtel network.

When I used Airtel 3G my mobile battery lasted just for a day.Now am using Aircel 3G &Battery lasts for almost 36 hrs. In chennai i found both Aircel & Vodafone 3G services are better than Airtel 3G.
