Yes may be,what it helps in the clarity on dth,as dth use ku band and i am not telling that c band is better in picture than ku band.I am telling that in cable tv they don't compress the picture as they do it on all dth.so there is no problem in pixelation.I have never seen a pixelation on any channels in cabletv and but i have seen pixelations on all dth.I had dish and Tata Sky before and now sundirect. The only difference in dth is there will not be any grains on the picture and in cabletv there is grains. But if we have a builtin booster on tv,then it clears it.Watching Cable tv on HDTV is better than watching dth on HDTV

We should only buy LCD if we have such HD channels or wide viewing channels else LCD or Plasmas are of no use in India for now (and for next few years). Its just the market (flooded with lots of such LCDs and Plasmas) and the hype (if neighbours have bought then why shouldn't I kind of mentality) - thats why more people are buying without knowing that picture will be stretched and bigger the screen size bigger the pixellation problem.

In dth, even in 21 inch flat tv i can see pixelations. Its on the feed,if the video is coming in good quality then even in 42 inch hdtv, the picture will be good.If the video quality is coming bad then even in 21 inch tv it will be bad.So people buy lcd and plasma mainly for big screen experience. And second is the HD.I am watching cable on LG 42 Inch LCD HDTV.Its very nice. But dth sucks for HDTV.Only if we connect the stb with component out, then it is some what good.As these dth players compress the channels for their benefits and gives us pixelation problems. In cable i have never seen any pixelation

This is precisely the reason i didn't go for DTH after i purchased a Samsung 40" LCD TV. I use a Hathway Digital Box(provided by my cable operator) which converts analog to digital signal and the picture quality is on par with any DTH service I have seen. Infact i found it to be better than DTH in many cases.:happy:Second point i would like to clarify is regarding MPEG-4. Its only a compression technique and the singal quality will not improve when compared to a MPEG-2 signal. The service provider can send a higher quality signal but he wouldn't do that as it would eat up the bandwidth. Main reason for moving from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 is only to push more channels rather than improve the quality of channels. We will enjoy our LCD/Plasma TVs only when channels are available in full HD format and the same is transmitted to our homes like in US. Till that time we have to live with this sucked up channels with mediocre quality and high prices. :frown:

No dth services provider can give better picture/sound quality than local cable wala. Why ?

Here you have to understand how both the technologies work.

1.your local cable wala downloads the original signal of the channel from satellite, then without compressing the signal quality it transmits the signal to your home

2. In contrast, dth operators downloads the signal, compresses the signal and then uploads to again their satellite and dth user downloads that signal from the satellite. Cos dth operators have taken satellite bandwidth as rent they want to accomodate more and more channels into their limited bandwidth by compressing the signal loosing the signal quality

3. Do not confused by digital tv. Unless otherwise your tv has dvi port/interface (which is reraly found),ultimately the user has to convert from digital to analog before viewing the channel and you are actually watching analog signal

4. Again mpeg-4 is not a standard which gives better picture quality rather its better compression technology reducing the picture quality and hence mpeg-4 means less quality than mpeg-2 or original signal quality

but certainly the cable has the biggest drawback that, even if you have power at home and cable wala does not have, you will not be able to see the channels which sometimes gives bitter experience. Where as if you have dth you can watch the channels if you have power at home.

And the biggest disadvantage with dth is, once you bought the hardware from your service provider, you are bound to stick with them and you do not have option to switch the service operator as they all are not oibeying the trai's rule for technical interoperability of dth hardware, which is a must and govt must take action to all dth players
