Airtel has temporarily discontinued its FWA device which was a plug and play product.

Airtel AirFiber will now come with an outdoor unit and an inside router, both of which are fixed in one place.

So you can’t carry them anywhere with you.

Further, one more city, which is Kolkata has been added to the list of places where it is now available.

I've been saying this since the beginning, this Airfiber thing is a shit show. Jio has created unnecessary hype and they failed to deliver. At least Airtel didn't create any hype or made unreasonable promises.

Also there's nothing wrong in copying strategies. There's no first mover advantage in our country because there's cut throat competition in everything. It all comes down to better implementation, whoever does it better, flips money.

If its not portable like Dongle, it defeats the major purpose for people wanting to use it while on move.
Only helpful where they don't have cable infrastructure or cannot lay cables (permission denied by housing society, etc).

Both Jio and Airtel are marketing it as a fiber replacement in dark fiber areas. Airtel was adamant to provide mobile hotspot device but following Jio's hype now they are also planning to installing ODU, ethernet splitters and shit. Trust me, one can't get these things installed without society's permission in apartments. They are also not doing independent houses as of now atleast in my city. What's the point of AirFiber then?

Obviously it's stupid to put an ODU for every connection, it's not cost effective at all, so now they are installing ethernet splitter on the rooftop. How is it any different than a wired ISP in terms of last mile connectivity then?
Even if someone clears all the barriers mentioned, speeds are not guaranteed as it relies on mobile 5G.

@akshay71 I always do had a little respect for Airtel even when every others used to say they and Jio are are two sides of a coin, but I was wrong as now Airtel became so cheap at copying Jio that they even dropped data FUP from 3TB to 1TB and keeping the price same
Looks like they got mad in this FWA game
