From what I know, with private couriers goods can be really undervalued. 200 USD mini PCs can be marked at 50 USD with customs of 2000 INR + courier fees.

Not sure if the checking is more strict with IEC though.

I don't think we care about the world's opinion or trade anymore. If we can rank 142/180 in press freedom, 168/180 in the environmental index and 94/107 in the hunger index and get hundreds of people jobless by banning Tiktok/Shein etc, then we can definitely do better by raising the customs duty even further. Don't stop at 100%. Get it to 250% or something.
What I hate about this govt is they ban imports from China at random. If India does not produce those goods, it makes zero sense to charge 77% duty on those things. As if some company is gonna start manufacturing that product immediately.

Wish China stops being idiots at border and goes back to pre-Doklam positions and we leave this entire nightmare behind us.

Not happening anytime soon, unless they are absolutely sure their interests are protected. Even Jaishankar has spoken this will be a long winter.

So, Aramex sent me the invoice and the CBE from ECCS and I paid the amount. Like you said, they added 300+tax. That's fine.

@varkey or anyone who can help me clear the below doubts, please help. I am new to importing stuff from abroad.

From the ECCS CBE document, I have a few doubts -

1. The items were declared at 591.88Rs. But, the assessable value came to be 716.94Rs. So, they hiked up to ~22% from the declared value. How do they decide this?

2. From the 716.94Rs, they took
107.54Rs (15%) as BCD
10.75Rs (2%) as SW Surcharge
150.34Rs (21%) as IGST

So, total = 268.63Rs (38% of assessed value).

But, the nowhere in the CBE mentions the HS Codes they used to calculate this. So, how did they decide? The only info that they given about this is:

NOTIFICATION USED FOR THE ITEM

Sr.No.Notification NumberSerial Number of Notification
1001/2017III124
2001/201756

I searched google for the above notification, but couldn't get any particular info.

Any help would be appreciated.

@varkey Does an IEC applied using sole proprietorship still work with customs ? Or is a GST registration mandatory now to import as business instead of personal ?
I am planning to import some RAM modules using PPOBox / a similar forwarder.

I ordered something from AliExpress after Government of India announced the Ban.
It was declared as gift.
I made a mistake. I did not read this thread before.
It was successfully delivered few days ago.
