So where should we provide this info? And what if the item is weighing more than say 500gms?

For Aramex ShopAndShip? You need to send a copy of the IEC to them, and all future shipments would be cleared as per the category wise duty rates. It's 10 USD + GST for the first half kg, and 8 USD + GST for subsequent half kgs. This is assuming you have an Aramex ShopAndShip account, I got it many years ago for 5$ or so, not sure what is the rate now. However there are other similar providers too.

So we say buy an and item from states and ship it through DHL /or any other shipping company, can we do it through this procedure. Just providing IEC.? AND also adding a 18% gst to that said amount?

Previously, when you import items through courier even if it was for personal use, category wise duty rates would apply. Say for a router under HS code 85176930, there is only GST of 18% and no basic custom duty etc.

However, now all personal imports are categorised under CTH 9804 which has 41.2% duty (10% BCD, 28% GST + some cess etc)

With an IEC, you can get the category wise duty rates (but you are saying that its not for personal use too, I guess its a grey area ;) )

Note that its not 18% duty for all items, it varies from category to category.

What do you mean by adding actual customs cost..? Is it the 48 or 42 % you told earlier?

Category wise customs duty and not the default 41.2% duty under CTH 9804 for personal imports.

Received couple of small packages with some connectors, cables etc over the last few days. All were in small envelopes, with declared value of 1-2 USD (same as what I paid). No customs duty as expected.

My packages are now getting lost in transit. One package contained Xiaomi Soap Dispenser while the other one was a kid's watch. Had to raise dispute and got refund for both. One more package containing a TGSP has no update after 02-01-2020 after leaving China (China Post Registered).

So from what I observed over the last couple of months, China Post Registered or China Post Small Packet is really really slow. There appears to be a lot of backlog that the package reaches India only 25-30 days after leaving China.

Whereas Singapore Post or even non tracked Yanwen and other similar options, reach India much quicker.

Once in India, the processing time is pretty same for all.

Also, if you see the option to get packages by Gati, opt for it, comes directly to Delhi and from there last mile by Speedpost.
