If you live in Noida or Ghaziabad, forget ordering your favourite gizmo from Amazon this festive season, because the e-commerce major won't deliver anything worth more than Rs 5,000 to any address with a UP postal code.

However, insiders associated with Amazon's delivery chain said the decision was taken due to buyer-end malpractices the company has faced.

"We've had many instances of items ordered from fake addresses. It affects everyone in the supply chain, because a lot of money and time is invested in catering to such orders. Just-for-fun orders are hurting e-commerce," said a courier operator which handles orders from various e-commerce portals, including Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal.

2 days back I ordered 32GB microSD card with COD option. But delivery boy said that they won't accept cash above 5000, as some delivery boy lost huge amount of cash.
Instead he had some card reader device attached to his Samsung Android phone through USB cable. He told me to make payment by my debit card, I was hesitant to do, as he even asked and entered pin (which I told him). Transaction was successful in few seconds and I got sms immediately from bank. He said me not to worry as many people are doing payment in this way and he asks pin to everybody. I only hope that my card is not cloned by that device :wondering:

They are indirectly saying everyone in UP is thug!!

@SVK best is to change PIN!

Nope. It says they won't be delivered. So whether they are COD or not, you are out of luck if you want anything above Rs 5000 from Amazon.

What a shame. Few years back well known actor producer and director dada kondake force to left movie collection from this area because no body wish to go their to collect the money.the area included mp up and bihar(source his biography)

the above post. i cannot make sense out of it.

someone can create a business model of receiving flipkart orders in delhi and then ship them to uttar pradesh for an extra fee. aka services like ishop international and ibhejo :D

Dominos, Pizza Hut and a lot of restaurants that do home delivery, don't deliver to many rural areas in Delhi and Gurgaon also. People place orders with these outlets by phone and when the delivery boys go to deliver orders, they are beaten by Jats, their pizzas/food is snatched and no payment is made.

Many courier companies don't dare to venture into parts of Greater Noida to deliver even a letter which has no commercial value. Too many cases of bikes/scooters of delivery staff getting snatched in broad daylight have happened in that city.

Same thing is happening with flipkart and Amazon. People place orders for costly items. Delivery boys go to deliver orders and the stuff in their bags is snatched by thugs on the way.

I am moving both my home and office from Delhi to Noida by coming December-January and this will be a problem.

I wonder why Amazon/flipkart don't accept payments by NEFT. That will be cheaper for them as there is no card processing fees and no chargebacks are possible.

The other way is I guess to have Amazon like partnerships with petrol pumps and retail chains. Products can be delivered there from where consumer can pick them up. And of course... No CoD transactions :P
