MUMBAI: Anil Ambani is expanding his media
business into overseas markets. Soon after the news broke about Reliance ADAG being in serious talks with Spielberg's DreamWorks to make Hollywood films, Ambani's Big FM has announced its deal with Singapore-based radio operator MediaCorp Radio to launch a FM station in Singapore.
Titled Big Bollywood 96.3 FM, the station will launch on 1 July.
As part of the agreement, Big FM will syndicate content, manage the frontal ad sales, and market the local FM station.
Big FM COO Tarun Katial tells Indiantelevision.com, “We have entered into a five-year deal with MediaCorp to launch Big Bollywood in Singapore on 1 July. It will play Bollywood
music, news and other trivia with exclusive content from Big FM. We will be handling content, ad sales and marketing.\"
Katial said similar projects were also being planned in the US, Middle East and Britain.
The FM station in Singapore will play exclusive Big FM content from 5 to 8 pm. The programming mix includes Bollywood gossip and trivia, an interview with a Bollywood celebrity every day, humuor capsules from comedians Shekhar Suman, Raju Shrivastav and Sunil Pal and News from India – covering general news, financial news as well as sports news.
\"The arrangement with MediaCorp is for a single FM station in the Singapore market,\" adds Katial.
Big FM believes the alliance will strengthen its endeavour to reach out to audiences the world over who are seeking Bollywood entertainment on radio. Says Katial, \"After the phenomenal response received from India, we are all geared to entertain people overseas. We also believe, with the increasing popularity of Bollywood movies across Asia and the world, there is an international audience who will also be interested in consuming our content.”
Singapore has a fast growing Hindi expatriate population. Big Bollywood will tap this expanding community.
MediaCorp Radio operates 13 local FM stations, which broadcast in four different languages over the airwaves. Its stations offer information, news, and entertainment for audiences of varied racial and cultural backgrounds.
