If Ganguly becomes Team Director, is there not a risk of him becoming non-playing Captain like Indian tennis team :D

Well I don't think he will mess at match level. He was quite vocal that coach's job ends once players walk on the field during his days.. But Ganguly being Ganguly can't say...

I wonder how many in the team today even like him today. Kohli and the likes do not appear to be the kind of players that would like too much interference with their gaming strategy.

BCCI's offer may make Ravi Shastri world's highest paid cricket coach
Team director Ravi Shastri will be the new India coach, BCCI sources have told HT. The Rs 7 crore-a-year-deal that will make the former skipper the highest paid cricket coach in the world is likely to be announced at the end of the Bangladesh tour.
...
The Board of Control for Cricket in India, said sources, stopped looking for a new coach after Test captain Virat Kohli told them he wanted Shastri in the dressing room.
...
Shastri, who had a Rs 4-crore a year contract with the BCCI as a TV commentator, will be the first cricket coach to be paid more than a $1 million (about rs 6.4 crore). He drew about Rs 6 crore annually as team director until the World Cup.
Fletcher, who joined Team India in 2011, was paid Rs 4.2 crore a year.

I am seeing the positive side. We no longer have to hear him in the commentary box if its true.

During the match, he may end up coming to the commentary box to share his opinion about the boys.

Apart from Ravi Shastri, Anil Kumble and Sandeep Patil, who are seen as the three favourite - some of the other Indians who have applied for the top job include former seamers Venkatesh Prasad and Balwinder Singh Sandhu, and left-handed middle-order batsman Hrishikesh Kanitkar.
According a report in Times of India, the final choice for the committee may remain between Patil and Shastri, in that order. Kumble, for all his accomplishments as a cricketer, has only coached in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and both his assignments - first with the Royal Challengers Bangalore and later with the Mumbai Indians - were not successful at all. Kumble also does not meet the BCCI's first condition in the advertisement listed for the post.
Because Kumble can't speak hindi well? :D

Anil Kumble, Ravi Shastri Interviewed For India Coach Job; Sandeep Patil Stays Away

While Kumble appeared for the interview in person, Shastri, who is out of the country, appeared for the interview via Skype. Among the foreign applicants, former Australian players Stuart Law and Tom Moody also gave their presentations via video conference.
Interestingly, a high profile candidate like Sandip Patil was not called for the interview while former India players Lalchand Rajput and Pravin Amre got the opportunity to make their case.
"I was not invited for an interview," Patil, who is currently the head of national selection committee, told PTI.
Amongst other foreigners, Andy Moles, an Englishman who has coached New Zealand national and Afghanistan in the past, also gave his presentation via video conference.

Stupid headline? Patil is saying he was not called & the headline says - "stays away"
