This thread made me remember of a website that used to exist: bulbtiger
Anyways, wattage is an electrical comparison, and should not be used to compare CFL Vs LED. Lumens is a measure of light which is an appropriate comparison measure. So for example, a 40w CFL tube gives you 650L, you may find comparable LEDs from various brands with similar lumens in the range of 7-11w.
Just because it is LED does not mean its long lasting, it depends on how well built it is. Thus go with branded stuff, I like
Philips or Havels.
Another comparision is the colour of light, I find that the naural 5000K-6000K range (basically white tube light colour) gives you a feeling of more brightness compared to warm white rage 3000K-4000K. Colour depends entirely on taste and decor.
Bulb efficiency is measured in lumens per watt. Thus if a LED gives 650L in 10w with 65l/w, and another gives 550 in 6w with 92.6l/w, the later is more efficient. These bulbs always keep on improving in efficiency, thus do not go about replacing every bulb in the house just as yet.
