IIRC, Its supposed to be the central entity created by the govt. to lay Optical Fiber Cable all over the country connecting even the villages with OFC. There is info on it but in its & bits over the net.

Its been there from 2012 i think but only on paper so far i guess.

Except only from last month I am seeing the BBNL ofc being already laid down in the entire gurgaon district (not city) and yup even smallest villages getting ofc drops which i think dont even have bsnl broadband due to exchange being in farther villages.

Is this broadband (or whatever) is only for Gram Panchayats?

Well there isn't much clarity about this. It's supposed to be kind of a backbone which small providers or local players could lease for further distribution. There is not much info on what all is going on.

But then recently thanks to this i've seen ofc cable laid in places where even 3g coverage is partial or non existant.

Yup there is, but its almost impossible that its that ISP especially in this part of gurgaon.

I've spotted these bbnl ofc coming up recently at such places where only a govt entity will be putting up links, as these locations doesn't even seem to be part of some intercity linking.

But then real benefit will be when end consumers will start getting any benefit of it.
