Intel Santa Rosa now powering latest Apple MacBooks

Hi,

I have been considering buying a MacBook. I made some enquiries at the Apple authorized resellers and I was given a quote of Rupees 65K for the white model with DVD writer and Leopard OS.

I was wondering if I could buy it cheaper from the grey market like Paalika Bazaar in New Delhi?

If the unit is sealed, is there any real risk in buying from the grey market?

ur considering buying a mac from palika?u gotta be kidding me.if ur going to buy a mac in india, but it from official sources. or get it from abroad and hope that the warranty is valid here.i am scared of getting into a situation where i would need to contact Dell warranty support. Apple's presence in india is minuscule in comparison. last time i checked apple's india web store was down.

Yup. Apple india store has been down like forever.I went to the Imagine store in Ansal Plaza Khel Gaon last weekend for the leopard demo and the store was EMPTY.Wouldn't I be able to save taxes and stuff if I by from Paalika Bazaar?Buying from abroad is not an option for me. :(So, I should buy from apple authorized shop?

umm... i dont think i have seen smuggled Apple macs being sold in the market anywhere...concentrate on the simple fact that you would need warranty if you are going for a macbook.so stay official. as simple as that.

I figued as much.I guess I'll buy it from official sources then.Thanks. :)any good india sites for macs? (getting started, tips and stuff)

mhm. mac is universal. any tips that works for an american would work for ya ;)have fun. i decided against going for a mac and got myself a Dell. think i got a good deal. but it would have been cool running a mac. especially after i got a chance to play with the iPhone last night! :D

Yeah. iPhone is Awesome. have been playing with it for a month and I don't regret the moolah I had to spend one bit! :)

DO NOT go for a Mac in grey!! That's just asking for it! But if cost is an issue, then ask yourself whether you need a Mac or would a PC do? (There are certain advantages of Macs for people who work with graphics, video, sound etc.). Without getting into a Mac vs. PC debate, If you are just an average user, you would find PCs to be much more cost effective for the average user.

Why I want Mac? Three Letters. OS X.
I know PC would be more cost effective.

But, that 'mac' experience is unique which can not be replicated on other systems.

I have tried experimenting with transformation packs on ubuntu gutsy, but It's just not the same.

The little details that Apple puts so much effort has to be experienced to be believed.
