WD TV is perfect for streaming videos directly form your own computer or NAS. YouTube connectivity also comes handy.
Isn't computer enough for all this stuff? What about buffering ?

Not everyone enjoys watching movies or television shows sitting on a chair (desktop) or small screen (laptop).WD lets you stream the content locally on your local network right on your television. As long as your router etc. are of good quality, it should work well. Similar to playing videos on your computer from a NAS or another computer on the same network.

Lol, People should use HDMI / usb stick and must avoid this gimmicks products(If they have a pc or smartphone). No offense mate. Just my thought.

These are not gimmicky products really. I have owned two of them and I have loved them both. First one was USB only. Second one had wireless connectivity.Of course, technology today is compact enough to allow similar capabilities in a USB drive. Like the Android powered USB sticks that are launching these days. Both serves their own purpose. If you need a pure media player capable of supporting practically every media port out there, WD type devices are great. If you need a general utility device, Android sticks are great.Smartphones. Right. You can use them too. But do you really want to put that much strain on them over a long durations? I had rather buy a 100 dollar device that can do it without issues related to heating and charging.

@chairman24 mbps via fiber from You Broadband. My dad's office have that. And there's no FUP whatsoever on you broadband. Hence there's an option available here in the city.

Not everyone has 24mbps broadband connection. You broadband may have 100 homes@24mbps but what about rest of 15,000,000 crowd ? Internet tv would be possible only in 2050. God save us!

You are missing the point. 'Internet TV' does not need to be broadcasted over the internet. Content providers can collaborate with ISPs and offer it through local peering at no extra cost.
Also, it's not like American internet connections are free of FUP. There are a few exceptions of course. But most people in western countries are also stuck with FUPed connections.
Also, it would take just a couple of years to problem to sort out once the ISPs start seeing it as a problem. The content is not there to be frank. Fine, Apple iTunes and Google Play are selling movies. But they are no alternatives to Netflix type services where you pay a fixed price to get unlimited access to content. I am not sure if I would consider Ditto TV like services as Netflix alternatives for India.
Also. You do not really need an unlimited internet connection to enjoy 'Internet TV'. You do not run taps in your homes 24x7 right? Get a connection with enough bandwidth to meet your requirements and it should be fine. I am perfectly happy with my 175GB FUP Plan from BSNL.

I have used Apple TV with a 8mbps connection and the experience was ok. With my 16 Mbps connection, it is great - no buffering once the movie starts after about 2 mins. For Indian market Apple TV can be a good choice for anyone who dislikes pirated content. Their per movie rental pricing is quite acceptable for the bluray quality and 5.1 audio. In the absence of Amazon prime or Netflix, Apple TV is a good source for content.Their indian store is sure to get more content with the launch of Apple TV device in India. Their pricing of the device is not appropriate compared to $99 in the US. Their model will be successful if they sell the device cheap and make money from content.
