Apple would no longer accept credit & debit cards for purchases or subscriptions on the App Store in India

Honestly, this is the worst move of all by RBI. Card tokenization is still understandable. But this single handedly broke everything.

In September 2021, the RBI prohibited merchants from storing customer card details on their servers with effect from January 01, 2022, and mandated the adoption of card-on-file (CoF) tokenisation as an alternative to card storage.

Tokenization is allowed. So payment through Credit/Debit Card should be allowed, if Apple wants to store the info then use tokenization if not then all they have to do is ask again next time. To remove the option all together I did not understand or am I missing something here

Also Google and others are still accepting the payments and also offer E-Mandates on Credit cards

What I think is Apple just did not want to do any "special" development for India so they just removed it all together. And as per the Article its extended till 30th June 2022 and not 1st June 2022

Tokenization is not a problem but the 3rd factor auth for recurring payments is an issue. So for Apple if you want to pay through your card then purchase a GC.

I think that the Apple balance method is better than having a CC that gets denied randomly for recurring subs. Of course I don't deny Apple should have made an effort but then they aren't amongs those companies that bend to the vagaries of the Indian regulatory system all that easily.

While my CC is still on file and simply add to my Apple account balance using the card and all is well till the balance is depleted.
