Baidu Inc was sued on Wednesday by eight New York residents who accused China's biggest search engine of conspiring with the country's government to censor pro-democracy speech. The lawsuit claims violations of the U.S. Constitution and according to the plaintiffs' lawyer is the first of its type.

It was filed more than a year after Google Inc declared it would no longer censor search results in China, and rerouted Internet users to its Hong Kong website.Baidu did not return a request for a comment.

According to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan, Baidu acts as an "enforcer" of policies by the ruling Communist Party in censoring such pro-democracy content as references to the 1989 Tiananmen Square military crackdown.
This censorship suppresses the writings and videos of the plaintiffs, who are pro-democracy activists, to the extent that they do not appear in search results, the complaint said.

I dont know whats the point of sueing... China is never going to accept whatever verdict US court gives.Infact, now this is what will happen. Lets say US court asks Baidu to not to censor results otherwise ban it in US. China will obviously not do anything. US then cant do much, max. they can ask NATO members to ban Baidu too.But in the end, China will have moral victory because noone will be able to touch China for this. Its like fighting with a mad man on street..If u give him 2-3 slaps..nobody wud bother, but if by chance that mad man gives u a slap, everyone will laugh at you and u will be embarrassed and feel totally humiliated.

hahahahahahahahah thats ridiculous to the possible extent, US itself is imposing bans/seizing domains with so called copyright, even their own senators are questioning about vagueness of action, They want to CLOSE anything and evrything but they dont want china to do that ?? BIGGEST HYPOCRISY EVER! OR IRONIC IS IT ??

Well, when you are a SuperPower country, ability to justify your hypocrisy also becomes super, I guess :)
