Hello,

I'm using Beam Broadband since late 2010 on my PC (Fiber connection, RJ-45 jack). Prior to Beam, I was an Airtel Broadband customer (Phone line, RJ-11 jack) for 3 years.

Problem: I have a Beetel 450TC1 ADL2+ Wireless Router (from Airtel) lying in dust. Now I wish to use this Router to connect my PC as well as my Mom's Laptop (Wireless mode only).

1) Network settings on current PC: Automatic (Beam DNS servers)
2) I do NOT have extra Ethernet cable (guess I need one to connect from Router Lan2 to the PC?)

Approach: This is where I'm held up. How to proceed?

i) Remove the current PC's Beam line (RJ-45) and plug into Wireless Router LAN1?
ii) Then, get an Ethernet cable, connect from Wireless Router LAN2 to my PC's Ethernet port?
iii) What Network settings should I use in the Wireless Router?
iv) What Network settings should I use on PC?
v) Later proceed with Laptop's Wireless setup, what Network settings for this?

Note:

a) Connections need NOT to be simultaneous; someone told Beam doesn't allow multiple logins at the same time? I'm not sure about this one.
b) Should the Ethernet cable regular one or crossover?
c) Wireless Router back side snapshot attached shows a Cable (not mine) connected to LAN1 port. Next to Antenna is Line Port, RJ-11 (Airtel) which is useless in my case.

Please respond.

Thanks a lot

hello there.its quite simpleconnect your beam cable line to your wireless router..beam cable provides dynamic ip address so u dont have to do anything..2nd option may be it works or may be not is to use pppoe mode if your router supports so that u will always be connected to internet when u switch on ur pc ..will be helpful if u use laptop when u do the setup first time just make sure all the setting are set to automatic and thats it..no need to add any ip address or dns or any other stuffthere is no need to change anything in pc's network setup ..it wil setup automatically...just make sure u dont have multiple ethernet connections enabledand then login with ur id and password of beam cable onto your pc...turn on your laptop and search for wifiit will show up ur router just connect and enjoy surfing

I'm little lost dealing with dozens of Network settings in my head. I tried this way as a test: PC side => Removed Beam's line; plugged into Wireless Router's LAN1 portRouter side => Crimped new Ethernet cable; from LAN2 port to PC Ethernet Port. I tried with a few settings. I could see this Wireless device within Laptop. But yet to configure the Wireless Router in depth. Perhaps this thread topic should be => Howto PC or Laptop I'll work on this tonight or tomorrow. Anyone aware of similar setup? I mean, either on PC or Laptop. Not simultaneous.

initial setup is good..no need to change anything

2nd part also u dont have to do much in wireless router setting

make sure that u do automatic ip detection in wireless router when doing first time setup and thats it you will have internet on ur pc as well as laptop

I tried many ways. Few weird things happened after Router RESET: 1) Connected to the Internet through Router on PC *without* doing any network config. How could this possible? 2) But I can't access Router IP (request time out). What could be the reason? Is Firewall blocking? Why? Should I need to run any service? SSDP is running Note: yet to test on Laptop for Wireless internet access.

I dont think you can connect wirelessly to this unless you connect the Beam cable to a WAN port on your wireless router. I see the router is having a RJ11 port and 4 RJ45s. Basically it is acting as a switch. I am not sure if this can act as a repeater in such a configuration. With DD-WRT, this may be possible, but with the default firmware, I am not too sure.Because it is working as a switch, any device you connect to the remaining 3 ports will get access to the internet automatically, if I am not wrong.

Interesting. Earlier I ran a lot of searches in this regard (450TC1 etc). Most of them could able to connect this device in wireless mode too. But I couldn't comprehend these:a) how could Router connect (on PC) to Internet with post RESET (which means with Airtel settings in the firmware)?b) why can't I able to access Router IP? This is even strange....Tomorrow I'll do same test on Laptop (i.e., first connecting to Internet using Ethernet cable - NOT Wireless). I need to make sure is it possible to get connected on PC as well as on Laptop (wireless only). Not Simultaneous. I'll try to approach Beetel folks but I really doubt if they will help me because I'm not with Airtel anymore. Perhaps I should check with Beam guys too. No idea if those guys could help or not...

a.) you are using the hardware as a switch, needs no configuration. it automatically shares internet with other portsb.) the router will not get an IP because of the mode of operation - the default IP after reset may be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, you can access this by giving a static ip to your laptop as 192.168.0.2 or 1.2 as the case may be and then access the firmware page.

With same Router/PC switch settings, I connected to the Laptop.

It's a success. I ran a test. Upgraded Avira AV 12.x to 13.0 version

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 2:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Atheros AR5B91 Wireless Network Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

So there is some hope. It shouldn't be this difficult - really a strange router as someone remarked :blue:

Coming to the pending question - How to access Router from PC? (192.168.1.1)

Show a screenshot of your router settings where you set the routing type to be PPPOE. Show the options that are there in that dropdown.
