BSNL FTTH
Im getting an FTTH connection from a BSNL TIP. They have some Raisecom Modems. for 3.5k :O

Can anyone recommend good modem that will work with BSNL FTTH.

Priorities are
1) ease of configuration,
2) speed,
3) multiple Gigabit ethernet ports,
4) phone port,
5) My whole network is run on an R7000 running custom firmware. So it should ideally just provide ethernet to the router. (DHCP etc are all run by the router.)
6) Torrents etc should work flawlessly.

Currently, BSNL adsl modem dials connection and connected to router via ethernet. (No bridge mode.)

Since you already have the Netgear R7000, you could just get a basic ONT and use it in bridge mode.

It doesn't have a telephone port, but you could potentially use a soft SIP client if required with some additional config.

Will this work with BSNL TIP? He said its GPON afaik.
Anything with multiple gigabit ports?

AFAIK EPON is just Ethernet running on Optical Media, So Most GPON ONTs support EPON aswell.
@varkey Maybe he wants an RJ-11 port for his telephone instrument.
TIP - Telecom Infrastructure Provider it's the official term for LCO partner in FTTH rollout.

What's TIP? 🤔

This supports both EPON and GPON, so should work. There are other models with more ports, but if you are going to use your R7000 as the primary router why would you need more ports on the ONT? Just trying to understand the use case.
Honestly, just as a backup. Recently mobile networks have been terrible and bsnl provides free landline number and only pay for what you use. So why not..

🤔Not necessarily from what I can see. I was checking Huawei ONTs and most only support either GPON or EPON. Only very few Huawei models support both atleast on paper. But these other no brand Chinese ONTs like Netlink/Syrotech etc seem to support both. 🤷‍♂️

Ah, I didn't know that! TIL 🙇‍♂️

These are the other Netlink models with telephone ports

Honestly I'm not a big fan of the BSNL's voice infra over FTTH. When I tried it several months back, it used to say telephone out of order or some other messages randomly when you try to call the FTTH number from elsewhere. Trying again usually works.

Currently I have it configured to work over soft clients and I can connect to it using a smartphone when on the same network.
