HD can be Full HD which is 1080p with max resolution of 1920×1080 or HD Ready which is 720p with max resolution of 1280x720. As pranay said widescreen 16:9 can be in standard definition of 480p too.
I suppose in your set top box there should be a channel information screen which will list the properties of the channel like 16:9, 4:3, HD, SD etc.
Guys please...
HD Ready indicates if a monitor/TV has a tuner or not and has nothing to do with resolution.. There can be HD Ready Full HD TVs.
Also broadcasted HD is normally always in 1080i or 720p... There are plans to have 1080p broadcasting, but so far, there are very few sources and no broadcasters in US (even though Dish USA has plans).
WHether the broadcast is in 1080i or 720 p is decided by the broadcasting stations based on the content type. A sposrts channel would use 720p normally while discovery/nat geo uses 1080i.
Good that you have invented something !!! SAYING IT IS NOT A HD MODE. BUT BE AWARE THAT ANOTHER CHANNELS ARE NOT EVEN IN THAT MODE., AND JUST IT IS A BEGINNING OF THE HD REVOLUTION.
How many DTH operators do provide it is 16:9 Mode? Definitely it is a sign our your sadness.
well what crap are u talking ,they are not giving any channel in 16:9 not even the pay movie channels ,if there was a 16:9 signal my tv would have auto wided to fit the screen.
even if big tv gives in 16:9 mode its far from dvd quality let alone HD ,there current stb arent capable of giving HD and presently they dont have a the transponders for that.
