yup, years to go before anybody gets caught downloading copyrighted stuff from torrents. Even internationally i can recall one case where a guy was arrested over the torrent issue..that also in Hong Kong which is a microcosm with strict implementation of laws.. in short not much of a problem here in India

my hardware supplier in gurgaon actually was caught red handed installing a pirated version of xp on a client's PC.he was told either to pay up a fine or get sued. now think abt that. if they are on to you. they will get you someday or the other.

 wat wud life be without torrents :D Wen i had the downloading bug onto me...I had totally gone berserrk...Poor pc never got to sleep... :P

thanks for the info regarding ur hardware vendor gettin caught..hey can u explain more on this..i mean can u tell us what at all happened..what was the charge and what he had to do??...what kind of client was that??>..was he a simple home user or some some foreign business man client etc etc.....how was the information gfiven to the police ....it wud be helpfull in the discussion.aprat from that i wish to say that there are differeneces between us downloaders and the case of gurgaon and hong kong. Coz in both the cases the person involved was in some way trying to distribute something. whereas we jus download and see...thats it....in those cases there is an intentional distribution of pirated stuff ...here we are the recievers....so does the same jurisdiction apply on us..i don think so....

this thread is going no where. people know what they are doing is illegal yet they are not ready to accept the fact that they might get caught for doing it. funny. and insane. at the same time.

this thread might have gone to a very intelligent and good discussion had u answered what i asked to u..but u chose to be a smart a** and started commenting about how people are??..this is ur second time u did that...come down from ur pedestal of mod and help reach the thread to meaningfull existense.i m askin u to do this since of all the posts in this thread, i find ur 2 outta 3 posts the most useless here...irony being u bein a mod and doin this.... :o

what i wanted to ask and know as to what are the charges that can be put against someone. Coz belive me, this is the way Law works. a person who is distributing something say drugs is not equal to someone who is buying from him...

having digital content on your hard disk you have not paid for is going to be illegal. if you own something but you make it available on the net would be illegal. downloading the same would be illegal. just because you do not become a party to make something available online does not mean you cannot be sued for piracy.

@josh show some respect.. pedestal of mod lmao anyway their is no denying the fact that downloading copyrighted content from torrents is illegal as hell.. if u get caught, u are on very shaky legal ground.. however, considering the prevalent scenario in our country is not very likely

most of the people in india don't use the internet.. im sure that if u count only the ones that use the internet for downloading, most of them will be aware if not only users of bittorrent
