^^^ Nokia didn't worked?
I think they are doing good in India as well as other markets.

I don't know about other markets but it is certainly not really doing good in India. I hardly spot Nokias here.

well the mobile market today is very different from the mobile market when blackberry and Nokia phones dominated.
so both of these companies are probably never going to reach their older customer base. so they need to pick a specific segment of the market and focus on that.
nokia is doing fine by offering phones in multiple price segments with the promise of clean android and faster updates. so people looking for this try to go for nokia over other brands. they could expand their potential customer base if they can get better cameras on their phones.
blackberry would need to find their own niche segment. because taking on one of the existing established player would get you nowhere. especially when both Amazon and flipkart have many exclusive deals and viva/Oppo have taken over the offline segment.

Xiaomi has completely shaken up the market. From what I've seen most people don't care about clean Android or optimization or faster updates. All they look for are better specifications for cheaper price which is why Xiaomi and OnePlus is ruling the market. They still fall for higher megapixel front and back cameras.

it's kind of insane that i do not see that many xiaomis around me. probably because i only get to see people carrying phones in my local market. and these are the folks who stick to offline route so Oppo seems to be everywhere. i guess for office going folks, xiaomi and OnePlus basically covers majority of the segment. in my family circle, it is either iPhones or samsungs. a few nexus/pixel largely due to my recommendation.
