Brave Software | Building a Better Web

A browser with integrated privacy and ad-blocking features from the former head and co-founder of Mozilla.

At Brave, our goal is to block everything on the web that can cramp your style and compromise your privacy. Annoying ads are yesterday's news, and cookies stay in your jar where they belong.

I believe this is the same guy who had to leave Mozilla because of the negative publicity around him opposing gay marriages or something.

Mozilla cofounder's new 'Brave' browser strips out ads that use your browsing history

“Brave browsers block everything: initial signalling/analytics scripts that start the programmatic advertising “dirty pipe”, impression-tracking pixels, and ad-click confirmation signals,” Eich says.

“By default Brave will insert ads only in a few standard-sized spaces. We find those spaces via a cloud robot (so users don’t have to suffer, even a few canaries per screen size-profile, with ad delays and battery draining). We will target ads based on browser-side intent signals phrased in a standard vocabulary, and without a persistent user id or highly re-identifiable cookie.”

It's not from Mozilla. The guy left Mozilla because of his anti-gay views or something like that.

so i just read that brave would be replacing blocked ads with their own ads in which they would take a 15% commission. i hope this company gets sued into oblivion. there has to be a web standard defined by the web browser companies and ad blocking companies for web publishers who want to completely block access to web users who want to block ads on their websites. because right now, it's a game that gives few options to the operators of ad supported services.

i mean it's a personal choice. him donating to Proposition 8 was bad enough for me. iirc he had to resign from mozilla after that fiasco. or maybe he was fired. i am not sure.
