He resigned as far as I know, most likely forced to do it. He seems to have not done such a thing later on, so I wonder why care about it much now.

A browser that modified URLs in the address bar to add affiliate links of their own. I think that's pretty much enough reason to dump it. If they can do it once, they can do it again.
