i have a bsnl broadband LAN connection and OS winXP. uptill the last 1 year my connection was working fine but lately my connection gets dead or stuck after about 2 mins of surfing. The connection icon does not open and it says it is yet connected but am not able to surf. I have tried to change my modem but am getting the same result. I have to start windows all over agin if i want to reconnect. I have a wifi connection at home which works absolutely fine.

User roaryaHave you configured connection in bridge more or PPPoE mode?Try to run Microsoft malware removal tool. All else fails try to repair/reinstall windows XP.Go to command prompt and run "ipconfig/all". What does it say?

Give your modem/router details.

How WIFI connection is possible if modem/router is not working ??
Where is the problem ? confusing .

Check for rusting/blackening/oxidisation/High resistance contacts.
Check rj 11 cable plug/s are not oxidised. Try new cables.

Open Modem/router Page and post screen shot of ADSL data
showing SNR/Attn Mod etc.

Drastic suggestions !!!

if your wireless is working but not the wired this can be due to 1.connectors,cable,PC's network interface card or its driver.2. or you are using your neighbor's LAN.:) check your tcp/ip properties by command ipconfig /all in both the systems.compare the results and they are not same use the settings from your wireless client.(This can be if you are not using your modem as dhcp server)

2. or you are using your neighbor's LAN.:)

Entirely possible! roarya please check your usage on BSNL portal, does it match to your browsing and internet usage?

Worst case might be that the TCP stack or some networking files have got corrupted. Reinstall OS or rather the networking parts of it only in that case.
