LL/cable/3G then bck to EDGE
Today i brought a BSNL 3G sim from the local CSC. They have activated the SIM and i am able to make outgoing calls as well.:imbored:
When the SIM was inserted for the first time i got various configuration messages like BSNLGPRS,BSNL LIVE etc. i have saved all of them.:irock:

But when i tried to connect to the net it failed.
My phone is Nokia C5 and i have changed the network setting to UMTS only.
Still i am not getting the 3.5G sign(with bars) just the normal 3G sign.:madness:

I have tried changing the mode to GSM only but there also it is not showing the normal E symbol.

Is it due to some network problem or some settings problem. :wall::frown:

plz help

Did you buy a 3G or a 2G sim? Looks like 3G is not enabled for your number. Check with BSNL office.Your mobile phone will show 3.5G only if it is logged on to a network. If no network is selected, you see 3G and not 3.5G

Yes i have bought a 3G sim and it is showing signal bars in UMTS (only) mode too.
But 3.5G or H symbol with horizontal bars(as in case of Nokia) is missing.

do u have 3G coverage in your area ?u said ur are not able to make calls from ur number , are u sure that ur number is activated ? if u select both mode in the network selection ie GSM & 3G / UMTS , u should be able to see the HSPA symbol in ur mobile whether the settings are installed or not

If you can see signal bars when UMTS is selected, why are you worried about 3.5G or H symbol? Keep network mode as Both. Your phone would automatically switch between 3G and 2G. Usually when 3G signal strength is low, phone switches to 2G automatically if you keep Mode as Dual.

Your nokia phone is HSPA enabled (10.6Mbps) Try downloading some data and check speed.

The problem is not with the mode, my phone is not showing a packet data connection symbol whether it is E for edge or 3.5G/H for hsdpa.
I have used Airtel GPRS before , sometimes this happens that no edge symbol is there, at that time no connection is possible as the phone has no link to packet data.
I am facing a similar problem.

my worry is whether Packet data/internet is at all activated in my 3G no.
As per as i figured from the its website there are separate plans and FRC's for mobile and data services.
Is that the problem , i only said i need a 3G sim , i did not say that i would be using it for internet.
As in ur case was the H/3.5G symbol been showed in ur cell phone from the very first time you switched on ur BSNL 3G.

I saw in some persons thread that this is a new problem and u have to go to the CSC where they will resolve it.

@devx101,
In BSNL Prepaid/Postpay application form, there are many boxes which you need to check like MobileTv, Detail Billing and blah blah.. I dont remember exactly but was there any field like Data/internet? If yes then did you check/mark it?

When i applied for a postpay connection, i checked all boxes including Mobile TV, Detailed Billing, Caller ID, International roaming :) Well they did not activate Intl roaming.

dude , do not worry, even if u got 3G bar , then it is ok , try to access data , and u can see 3.5G or Hi m in Chandigarh got H sign om handset using Reliance 2G sim

finally got the solutionmy main account balance was less then Rs.50, the bsnl employees told me this.that's why i was not getting the 3.5g symbol...And yes one more thing the BSNL EAST setting does not seem to work here, i changed it to BSNLNET manually and finally it started to work...

I'm having a problem which is a quite different from yours.. There's a fluctuation between 3.5G and 3G signals. When i use to download a file, it 1st downloads using 3.5G. But aftr a few seconds, it comes back to 3G and my downloading stops. I've used many phones & data cards, but the problem isn't yet solved..
But may be i can help you in your problem. First of all, you need to have a data plan of your choice from the retailer. Secondly, you should have atleast an amount of Rs.50 in your numbr.. Check that your network & connection settings are alright. For connection settings, choose your default settings as BSNL NET or BSNL LIVE. Then go to settings/conectivity/admin settings/packet data/packet data connction,, Make it when available. Then edit access point settings as for BSNL NET, write there bsnlnet or for BSNL LIVE, write there bsnllive.. Enable the High Speed Data Access and then you are ready.. Browse with a speed of 10.2Mbps on your phone.

BSNL EAST, BSNL WEST, BSNL NORTH & BSNL SOUTH are GPRS/EDGE settings for particular regions.. BSNL NET, BSNL LIVE, BSNL MMS and BSNL STREAM are 3G settings for use all over India.. So BSNL EAST wont work on your 3G data plan.. It'll only work if u r using a 2G data plan..
