Dear Abhijeet,
Thanks for the reply. Since I am new - What is PPoE mode and Bridge mode ? How do I know in which mode I am ? Which mode is better ?
Presently I am using a
Windows Dialer to connect to the internet by proving my username and password.
Kindly suggest.
Thanks.
They are two ways of configuring your
ADSL connection. To put it in simple manner:
Bridge Mode: The way you connect now with a dialer.
PPPoE Mode: Always on. ADSL modem makes a connection when power is switched on. You do not have to dial anything in OS.
Your modem must have something similar:

Which is better? Well, keep all things equal and do a speedtest on Dataone.in to see if either mode is faster. For me PPPoE works better (more stable connection, higher speeds, lower latencies). But so many use Bridge mode without any issues, I'd say majority of Dataone users are using Bridge mode happily.
PS: There must be a user manual (electronic PDF copy on CD) with your ADSL modem. Else search online on manufacturer's site. That will have helpful information. Try these settings when configuring in PPPoE mode:

Which plan are you using sir? If you are on capped usage plans with night unlimited feature (eg: Home 500), remember to reset modem or start a new connection at 0205 hours and 0755 hours BSNL time (different from your PC's clock). Else you will get a huge bill.
