Hi, This is my first post to the forum. Would appreciate if you answer following questions of mine. 1. Does Gurgaon have BSNL EVDO Connectivity? 2. Has anybody in india used a Wireless router with BSNL EVDO broadband so that multiple laptops can use the same broadband? What is the cost of the router, who is the manufacturers and does BSNL provide these router by any chance? I had seen in internet that they have wireless router for EVDO in US, but that was pretty expensive. Thanks,AbinashWould appreciate some fast replies as i will go for EVDO soon because in my area, there is no cable for broadband from any service provider. Best Regards,Abinash

Here are the answers1, NO - as of last month end. But they are catching up soon2, NO - EVDO itself is wireless and sharing EVDO connection is not practical. Try to network between your PCs so that you can share the internet connection from one PC. (Dont know much abt it though)

Other than a EVDO router the other option you have is to get a usb EVDO modem connected to PC and have Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on it. This PC will be serving the other PCs in the network. Google for ICS to know more about how to enable ICS.

Sorry for digging up old posts. Recently I saw a wireless modem with USB port. I am not familiar with the network side, but is this possible to connect the BSNL EVDO utility to the wireless router through USB and access net wireless in my laptop? The reason is that in my home EVDO signals are weak and I found a particular location (on top of my window) where signals are stronger. Its not convinient to connect to the laptop and place the EVDO modem there, and even USB extension cable wont help. If the above method works, it will be great for me. Please help.

1. Not aware about Gurgaon

2. One of the disadvantages of the BSNL EVDO usb modem is that it is not
compatible with any of the commonly available routers in the market.
The only known EVDO router which is compatible with the BSNL ZTE 8700 modem is the Draytek Vigor 2910. Please see link below

DrayTek Vigor2910 Series Router Firewall

Unfortunately this router is not avbl in India and would have to be ordered from Taiwan!

Recently BSNL has introduced its own EVDO router but it is very expensive now. Please see link below for the details

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.

MRenjan,Thanks for sharing this with the community. I never realized this product existed till I read your post. And the price is not expensive compared to the BSNL router. One related question though:If you remember, when you connect the evdo modem to your laptop or desktop, one can see the signal strength etc. Now when you attach this modem to the router - how do you see this information? Thanks!

I have the same router a Menoranj and there is a signal strength meter on the main status page of the router. This page will also tell you what mode the modem is in as well, either hybrid or CDMA.
