Hi All,
I am coming to this post after asking a few queries in Airtel BB section as I am having Airtel as of now.
If I understand correctly BSNL offers FFTH.

Airtel is forcing me to use their own ONT Router, however I want to use my own WAN router and so far they are not positive or clear about it. I have understood from answers to my earlier posts here on this forum that ONT in bridge mode can work here. If Airtel is not positive about it, I might switch to BSNL FFTH. So I have a few queries. Please help

1. Does BSNL FFTH offer ONT at your home (I can buy it at my own cost as long as it's approved by them) and allow you to connect its output to standard WAN port of your router? If so, I am free to buy any standard WAN port router of my choice and am not dependent on ISP provided ONT Router
2. Does BSNL offer routable public IP (I am fine even if it's dynamic) I don't need a static IP.
3. Does anyone know who in BSNL can provide answers to technical queries like this in addition. I called customer care but they said visit exchange and I know in exchange know one will know what I am talking about.
4. With BSNL do they play 'Area Game'? I mean other private ISPs say we have no cable in your building so we won't provide you connection. Does BSNL raise hands like this or generally regardless of customers, they provide BB/Telephone services?

Thanks and regards.

I am from Pune.

BSNL or its vendor who serves in the area sell the ONT outright to customer as part of installation charges they collect (in the range of 4-5K in Pune). So, the ONT is yours. The make depends on what they have. I followed this system when I had BSNL FTTH installed at my office in Jan 2020.

For my home installation, cabling for which was finally done yesterday (finally because I had to follow up with the vendor a lot) I had informed the concern person in advance that I will buy my own Non WiFi ONT as I already have TP-Link dual band router. After seeing details of ONT (Netlink HG323R) sent over WA he has agreed that the same can be used and therefore has reduced installation charges to cover only cable cost. This connection is no up yet. Will update once done.

I feel BSNL vendor do not play area-game. Vendors have their area of operations defined. In my case there was really no cable in the area till yesterday.

All this is to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks a lot. Basically I am having not much tech knowledge about ONT. So whatever Netlink HG323R you have bought, is it just going to convert fiber to LAN? Or do you connect your TP-Link router to it in Access point mode?
My requirement is I want my own router with WAN port to be used in router mode.
i.e. LAN out of ONT should go into WAN port of my TPLink router and keep the router in Router mode, so that it's my TPLInk router that actually connects to Internet using PPPOE or DHCP or Direct connection etc whatever is offered by BSNL and then being in Router mode I use all features like DDNS, parental control and several others.

Netlink HG323R can be generally called fiber convertor with RJ11 port for telephone that comes with FTTH. It has two LAN ports. LAN out of it can go to WAN of your router. It can be used in bridge mode so that the router connects to internet using PPPoE.

My present setup is - Netlink ONT connects to net in route mode. TP-Link router does the rest, ie wifi and wifi DHCP etc. Netlink ONT (HG323R) is not wifi anyways. I did so as I had difficulty using it in bridge mode which I am yet to find out why. That is TPLink router doing the PPPoE job.

I have set different ip address sets to Netlink ONT and my TPlink router. Using TPLink for wired conn to desktop.
