Hello i am planning to change the my dsl connection to fiber in my area, the exchange guy said to fill a form which asks for the type of ONT. Now i know that type B ONT has wifi facility but i want to know whether it is wifi only or will it have Ethernet ports too? since i need both. Also anyone who has fiber from BSNL can you tell me if they charge extra to spread the wire from road to your home?. The exchange guy didn't mention anything he just asked for 3500/rs deposit including modem.

Both will come with an ethernet port. You should however check if the ONTs have FE (100 Mbps) or GE (1000 Mbps) ports. Also, I would suggest buying a separate wifi router and connect it to the ONT as they will have advanced networking features along with better range and speeds compared to the built-in wifi ONT's supplied by the LCO/BSNL.

I think your connection is through a Local Cable Operator (LCO) and not directly from BSNL because BSNL provides ONT on rent and also does not charge for fiber laying/splicing as they only provide connections to those customers who are within the limit of 200m or 300m from BSNL's junction box. But LCO does charge for laying-splicing fiber cable to your home from the nearest junction box and also for the ONT.

And yes type B ONT has both LAN ports and WLAN for wired/wireless connections.

I would advise you to buy a Type A ONT (an ONT without WIFi), which at least has a single GE LAN port ( supports speed up to 1000mbps) and a rj11port (only if you want to use a landline). And then put the ONT in bridge mode with a good quality budget 5ghz router like TP-LINK ARCHER C6 or A6. In this setup, you will get the maximum speed and minimum pings for your connection.
