@WieldyBinkie it need not be the same situation for you too mate..
-Initially as usal bsnl officers blamed the LCO for the connection since they checked everything at their distribution centre over my town. And only people people under my lco had this situation.
1. They did check for Rx power - which was normal.
2. Later the bsnl engineer tried to blame incompatibility of the module. ( This was later found to be not the reason, as it was the Same before my connection went haywire).
3. Then the bsnl engineer blamed that there wmjght some port problems, he tried multiple different ports.
4. He also did not forget to blame the olt equipment and and my own
ont, thats when my lco lost his temper as this was going on and on forever and bsnl never checks if there is any problem with their equipment or ports; ND he showed the same ont in my house did get 100 mbps when he configures from a different isp. I too lost it, and yelled at him.
Complained at twitter level - @bsnlindia,
pgportal etc.
Wrote multiple letters to my district fibre head.
This is when our good friend - bsnl divisional engineer, started to trouble shoot from his own side, he acknowledged there exists a problem which he did not know. Or which he haven't faced before. ( initially this same guy changed my
Google dns to open dns - to show me there was a speed increase from 3mbps to 7mbps but that didn't last long).
Had a put out several test for for him showcasing, severe packet loss and high ping . He smiled and said we will check upon that.
Almost 25 days had passed down; initial lockdown was over our dear modiji declared lockdown 3 stocks started crashing, markets were uncertain - Trump declared we should try chlorex injection

for corona.
But my bsnl connection remained same - not going above 5mbps.
Our dear bsnl engineer started trouble shooting from bsnl exchange-changed ports, gave my connection high priority, changed modules. Supplied free new modules to our good friend LCO.
LCO happily accepted but told him again this is not a problem with module.
Our bsnl guy finally called bangalore Nib to sort out the issue as he didn't know what to do.
(initial problem included the inability of bsnl to test a connection to reproduce My situation - becoz bsnl test connection would only have a speed 8 mbps. At this point my LCO had three of his other customer one a shop, which was opened during lockdown 3, second a residential home.
So bsnl engineer ass got fired up again-

All this time he blamed some problem with us and now he could reproduce the same speed at lco equipment- and he didn't know what's the problem.
It was during this time that, bsnl 4g tender was scrutinized and critised for providing the tender to international companies such as Ericson instead of local Indian companies which had no experience.
The excuse was that since bsnl was a part Govt owned entity it should have given tender to useless Indian companies to promote make in India. Do note this same assholes had no problem with airtel tieing up with controversial
Huawei for 5g expansion, when our bsnl only requested for 4g equipments. Another blow to one of the biggest Govt sector in India ( I believe had our finance minister, Nirmala had a say in this bsnl; this whole bsnl entity would have been sold to, either Jio or airtel at scrap value to boost the economy and might made a remark this public - private partnership is done to improve the working condition of bsnl employee's who have been laid off) .
30th day after my connection problem - Our bsnl engineer started to remove the configuration of our lco connection from his sidea nd entered back everything up.. Viola speed increased to 30mbps.. (started to see a ray of light as my last hope at the end of the tunnel

) But little did I know that this wouldn't last longer.
2 days later one good asshole in our district bsnl head office made up something, by which a new connection need not enter details for Landline connection.(it would get configured automatically when the username and password was enter for ftth)
To my complete dismay, my connection was down and when it came back up, we were back to square one - 5mbps up /down (atleast bsnl kept thier word symmetrical speedevne when their connection was crap

).
It was at this very time, few good lads in this forum (names removed, so as not to provoke public outcry) where complaining that their ipv6 speeds weren't crossing 150-200mbps. Some even boasted about hitting 300mbps. Well lucky for them.

.
32 days over - the bsnl engineer sat up for one whole day and repeated the procedure removed every config of our connection and started re- entry.
The next day speed was back(40/50mbps), ping was back to normal and packet loss started improve, and it was reduced drastically. In the end as every Bollywood cliche movie, my bsnl ftth too had a good ending.

Now speeds are back to normal and I did a bridge setup to
TP-Link c6 - the sites are much better at loading than my
Netlink router connection remains stable. Ping was reduced by few ms (there is no solid proof for this might be an illusion for me, cuz i bought a new router - but I can say clearly the speed test are reacting quicker, they go initially above 70-100mbps as initial bursts for my 50mbps connection then come back to 55 to 58 mbps maybe even 60. For my netlink I rarely saw this thus initial bursts, peculiar for a bsnl connection, it was like a slow transition from 30-40-48mbps) ping used to be around 30ms minimum during speed tests now I'm getting it under 16ms, consistently.
So I believe as
@varkey noted before; getting a good router is essential for a connection, even if it's a 50 mbps connection. The overall experience improves for sure.
Tldr; My horrible experience with bsnl ftth during lockdown. But had a happy ending.

@WieldyBinkie tbh my bsnl engineers to this day don't know what caused the problem or what made the issue go away this includes Banglore nib people.
