The above mention channels i prefer to watch.....but there might 2-4 channels which may not be there in the Tata Sky DTH platform......but if its provided i will subscribe to it........

Just like that i am not randomly put down the channels here my friend.......

You can argue with me whether i daily watch these channels.......i would say i wont watch these channels daily but on a regular time i prefer to see some shows in the above mentioned channels.........

Lastly FYI - In chennai under CAS the cablewala charge us Rs. 100 min for line rental and per pay channel he charges Rs. 6 inlcusive of Tax.........

----------

Cable will be phased out. I think more areas will implement CAS. Thats the way to the future. and CAS with lot of channels does work out more expensive.

First let all the state capital implement CAS or Digital Set Top Box........I dont see in rural areas people will afort to pay more than Rs. 75 or 100 for cable to get all the channels.........

^^^That are still too many channels for any individual (For whole family its ok).Besides we watch because we get all this channels (as Amish said). Consider situation that all above channel were available for Rs 10~20, then we would definately have to limit our TV viewing.I watch just some shows on STAR ONE, SAB, MAX, STAR GOLD, NDTV 24x7, AAJ TAK, Discovery, NGC [and Free Music channels B4U & 9XM) and Cricket, all mostly 1~2 hours a day or 2~3 hours in weekend. I feel that is sufficient for me.

whether its cable or CAS both cannot compete with reliability of DTH..i have an underground cable n/w in my area still have bear with huge number of cable cut issues not to mention the crappy signal boosters that decide on their own when to work and when not to work

that actually depends on ur cable operator. technology wise wired tech wud always be more reliable than wireless. only thing u need it quality wires and boosters and not cheap ones.

exactly, one shud not count 5min of viewing as a countable channel. we shud count only channels which are really necessary to certain level.

i dont think more than 3 news channels or 3-4 sports channels are required at a given time. all news channels are now fast enough and show same content

yeah but technology doesnt operate in a vacuum..its the environment and the implementation that makes it unreliable

all the best mate... hope u get a good experience in tv viewing from now on.. How much did u spend for this connection ?

Just Rs.500/-

If you choose more than 50 PAy channels under CAS it also an expensive product my friend........

50 Pay channels X Rs. 6 = Rs. 300
Monthly Rental = Rs. 100

Total = Rs. 400

No, you are wrong mate!

I only pay 250 per month and I get all the pay channels!

Aju sir it is still cheaper than Tata Sky where it costs Rs.410(for yearly whole payment of 5,000). In Tatasky many channels missing which is available for that 400.

cable tv is far far better than DTH, I spent 1200 Rs for hathway STB and I m able to watch all d channels in digital quality.CABLE TV= More channels, poor clarityDTH= Less channels, rich clarityWith STB on cable tv, you can take advantage of both cable and DTH:thumb:

No way to add new TPs to Airtel DTH set top box.

They have blocked it even though you own the STB. Once to came to their NET you are gone.

Now curse on your decision to opt for Indian DTH service provider who are in the practice of UNFAIR/ILLEGAL TRADE PRACTICE

No dth services provider can give better picture/sound quality than local cable wala. Why ?

Here you have to understand how both the technologies work.

1.your local cable wala downloads the original signal of the channel from satellite, then without compressing the signal quality it transmits the signal to your home

2. In contrast, dth operators downloads the signal, compresses the signal and then uploads to again their satellite and dth user downloads that signal from the satellite. Cos dth operators have taken satellite bandwidth as rent they want to accomodate more and more channels into their limited bandwidth by compressing the signal loosing the signal quality

3. Do not confused by digital tv. Unless otherwise your tv has dvi port/interface (which is reraly found),ultimately the user has to convert from digital to analog before viewing the channel and you are actually watching analog signal

4. Again mpeg-4 is not a standard which gives better picture quality rather its better compression technology reducing the picture quality and hence mpeg-4 means less quality than mpeg-2 or original signal quality

but certainly the cable has the biggest drawback that, even if you have power at home and cable wala does not have, you will not be able to see the channels which sometimes gives bitter experience. Where as if you have dth you can watch the channels if you have power at home.

And the biggest disadvantage with dth is, once you bought the hardware from your service provider, you are bound to stick with them and you do not have option to switch the service operator as they all are not oibeying the trai's rule for technical interoperability of dth hardware, which is a must and govt must take action to all dth players

With STB on cable tv, you can take advantage of both cable and DTH:thumb:

I can say if you getting most of the pay channels in analogue mode then around 30% of the channels will have poor clarity..........if your have digital cable the clarity of the picture and sound does match the DTH........but we need to compromise on certain things if we have cable or digital that is the down time which is very high atleast with my cable........
