i am running on a home500 plan(2.5 GB limit) that has upto 2Mbps speeds. my speedtest.net results gave me 1833 kbps download and 101 kbps upload sppeds.i thought this was good enough until i saw a few other people's results in this forum under dataone broadband.they had results which made my speed very very small infront of them.(to mention some1 had 8000+ download speeds)so taking into account BSNL's most plans have upto 2 Mbps speeds, except business plans that have upto 8 Mbps.but with that also we dont get 2 Mbps speeds(i dont know abt 8 Mbps).so most of you guys must b having the same upto 2 Mbps speeds.how did u all get such phenomenal speeds ?????and the guy with 8K+kbps......is dat sum kind of a forgery made to the posted image or is it really possible to somehow achieve such speeds using the existing connections ????guys ur views plzz.....

the user you are talking about with 8mbps speed is mrbgupta
his speed according to speedtest is 8mbps but his actual download speed is around 2mbps.bsnl is planning to launch IPTV service & for that line speed must be 8mbps & thats why this speed.but that doesn't mean that the download speed will also be 8mbps.until bsnl launched 8mbps plans line speed may be increased to 8mbps for IPTV but download speed will be 2mbps.
download speed also depends on the time, site & various other factors which also includes how far are you from exchange & what is the line quality in your area.normally to get full 2mbps you should live near to exchange(less than 1km) & your line quality should be fine(underground cables).also try to download something from sites like microsoft, sun microsystems(java) etc. with a download manager like flashget,IDM etc or some heavily seeded torrents to see how much speed you get.

well thnx whitestar_999.this was a gr8 insight.

so the basic answer is NO.
i tried downloading a heavily seeded torrent....with abt 2000 of them.....bitcomet shows a respectable upto 230 kBps.dats quite good i hope compared to other people.
and even with downloads from adobe or microsoft using IDM reach similar 200+kBps speeds.

so can we expect after launch of IPTV services that BSNL increase the speed of we old users????or something similar to that ??

i don't think bsnl will increase speed up to 8mbps,perhaps new unlimited plans will come in which up to 2mbp will be speed, but not sure when this will happen:wall: and how much money bsnl will want from us monthly:whistle:for this....

Apparently BSNL has already announced the 8mbps upgrade in kolkata.:). And with their good quality copper wires they sure can.:)Other ISPs will hope they rust soon though.:D

From today I am seeing a change in upload speed of my 900UL.almost double.Earlier sunny reported same.

Happy days are coming I think.:yahoo:

but bhubaneswar(orissa) comes before calcutta ......... i guess they are going by places that generate good revenue for them.....or where they have good stronghold....or sumthng like that
