Can I use netgear WIFI router without beetel modem

I tried doing the WEP ecryption,,but if i select WEP, my laptop does not connect to the router, and i have to remove the ecrption to get it connected..What to do?? and how can i find out who all are connected to my wifi connection?

Now The first post of the thread appears , and after reading it , you can read further posts and then the last post ( mine No 12 ). Then you can help with your comments .
Earlier some contributers used to read the latest post and post their comment/s , and the query/problem of the original thread started was lost!

Hi, Thanks for all ur help till now. I am able to surf the net, also i was able to provide the network key to my wifi connection for security and also i found the opton where i can see who all are conected to my wifi. As i m a new user to a wifi thing, i m facing new problems. The latest one is, once i m conected to my wifi router and leave the laptop for sometime as it is and go out, when i come back, i sometimes see that the conection has been lost or sometimes i can see the conection still there, but i m not able to surf the net. Then i have to connect to the router again to surf the net.Y do i get disconected after some time of inactivity?? Is there an option in windows or router that it will get disconected automatically after some time, if there is no activity?
