Can type-IV model be used to share files on LAN?

I presently have a type-I modem and now plan to buy a type-IV (my sister now has a laptop). Can I use it to share files in-between my PC and her laptop as well as play multi-player games (on LAN)? Or should I try other brands like D-Link/Netgear?

I use my type -II (which is actually type-IV) modem to connect my laptop and my PC when I plug out the adsl line.. the modem is actually a router

You mean one cannot simultaneously share files and internet connection?

We can share files and use Internet Simultaneously and I am doing it.Although I dont know about Multiplayer LAN Gaming.
