Consider IMMIGRATION as a Line of Control. Going out of India, if you cross immigration(with Visa ofc), you are technically out of India(departed). Similarly, while coming to India, and you cross immigration, you are IN India. So once passed Immigration in either way, they will stamp your passport.

Since he is coming from US, his passport mostly will be stamped in Ahmedabad and you can meet him, but all his checked in baggage will go directly to his final destination.

Yes .. so he does not have to do much formality at Mumbai airport.

Will inquire abt if two separate airlines or same.

Obviously he wud prefer that he does not have to get luggage out and back in.

OT - When i was returning from Malaysia i was literally wandering(came very early) across the airport with a stranger(later became friendly). Nobody bothered us to ask whether we have a valid ticket or not. The stranger was there in the Airport for more than 3 days as he missed the connecting flight to India. No questions asked.
Is it even possible in INDIA airports?

Ok so I have details now.

Airline is same... Indigo ... i.e. From Raipur to Mumbai and From Mumbai to Ahmedabad

Terminal is same 1B for both flights (arrival and departure)

I called airport helpline

Lady said - he can not do it as he will be sitting in boarding (waiting) room.

So I asked her - is there no way?

She hesitated a bit and then asked me to call indigo and confirm!!

So i have a feeling she did not know the process for this situation.

That I wud ... but just wanted to know if someone has done this earlier.

Just wanted to update.

That I did manage to meet him.

He was able to come out and go back in without much fuss and luggage went direct to next flight.

Thank you everyone for inputs.
