google android has full support for google voice. but google voice is only supported officially in USA. but i have read certain articles where u can do some tricks for some possible uses of google voice in india. but local phones? i doubt. maybe IP based phone numbers can be made to work with it.

To use Google Voice in India, use some kind of IP anonymiser, like Hotspot Shield. That way you will be able to make free calls to the US and Canada, from within India.

hehe. i guess u can do it right from gmail now through an american IP. calls from GMAIL to USA and Canada are free.

Yes you can. But Google Voice is currently in US, CANADA, UK. It is expected that it will come to India in 2011 (or luckily 4Q of 2010). Making call using Google Voice tweaking with proxy may not work unless you have a phone in that country of IP. It needs validation over phone where you need to dial a two digit code in that number.

arrgh. google voice is only in the US market right now.

google has not revealed any plans to expand it to international markets.

it is not an easy task because... voice is just not a web based service... it is technically a telephone service.

google had to 'buy' millions of phone numbers from i believe level3 or some other company to make it work.

it is not going to come to india for a simple reason... government regulations and telecom cartel.

update: i might be wrong on some points here but i do not believe the above post is very accurate.

@admin I have used proxy of US, CANADA, UK and I am able to sign up. But I couldn't call anywhere because I don't have a number in that country. International number for verification is not possible yet. I researched little bit and find Google is interested to expand their business internationally in its VOIP section.
In India, yes, it may take long to come here.
Voice/Video conference over any messenger platform (GTALK, YAHOO, SKYPE) seems best and free way to have contact. Using 3G it won't be a bad idea for local chats.

might have been something related to this Don't Click this Button in Google Voice!

google of course would want to expand the availability of the service but it would all depend upon how other governments would think about letting a US based company to monitor the calls of their citizens.
