@sigma24 BSNL OLT's are very old and only work with their respective ONT's like Alphion OLT base user will only have to use the Alphion ONT or The Nokia Siemens Networks based user will have to use Nokia Siemens Network ONT etc.

BSNL itself is not planning to upgrade it's equipment now since it's already going through financial crisis and focusing on 4G/5G roll out so I don't think that things gonna turn out in near future too.

However good news is that BSNL has changed it's strategy and now partnering with local service provider, these local providers work with 50/50 revenue sharing with bsnl (Where they do the maintenance and BSNL does the billing) and have better equipment (in terms of OLT & ONT) than BSNL itself.

BSNL call them TIP Partner, I am sure in your locality you have one or more.

If yes, you need to take a new connection with them and surrender the old one and use whatever ONT you want. At least I've learnt this from my personal experience and by BSNL staff from my locality as well.

@shashankb the problem with BSNL is that they claim to have only this an5006 modem in stock which does not have a GE port for speeds over 100 Mbps and and my plan speed is 200 Mbps . I will try to get hold of a ITP partner as suggested by @BraveHunt .

It is very much area based and cannot be generalised. Now BSNL does not encourage that as they want rent for the crap modem(Some helpful employees of BSNL still help you) . It all depends on OLT they use

Private LCO can give you the information . You can confirm that with LCO/BSNL guys. Alphion OLT only support Alphion ONT. The rest are usually supported like Syrotech, Netlink , Huawei OLT. You can also ask the people who are using it

@shashankb I thought the same and grabbed a piece of Huawei Echolife HG8120C from @varkey thinking that cloning SN/MAC would work but I was stucked as @sigma24 as I couldn't get the vlan id from my Nokia-Siemens-H640V-G25E ONT as it's pretty plain one and doesn't have any fucntion other then adding your credentials and pressing connect/disconnect button.
I even tried to get help with BSNL regarding configuring my Huawei ONT and learnt that the OLT which they have given connection to me will only work with NSN (Nokia Siemens Network) ONT which they have no new model (Only the old one which I'm already using and has no GE port either)
After urging them to the problem (And they acknowledged it very well) they themselve suggested me to get a new connection with their TIP Partner in my area and surrender the old one and said that their partner is using the OLT with latest technology and also providing ONT with GE port.
I called the person and checked with them they assured me that my Huawei ONT will work with their OLT.
So I guess same goes with @sigma24 all they need to do is just find a TIP Partner in their locality and discuss the matter with them.

@BraveHunt exactly the same problem and same solution happened today with me. The BSNL olts here have not been upgraded since 2011 and high speeds over 60 - 70Mbps are not achievable . So I have to now surrender my 6 yrs old connection and get a new one with a ONT having a GE port from a TIP partner who informs me that his OLT is of Syrotech make.

@BraveHunt . Same issue here . I have a direct connection with BSNL .Those BSNL guys get their material like Router , OLT , cabling from the Central Corporate office as they buy in bulk at their company . Now Alphion and BSNL has some understanding and Alphion does not let other ONT to be plugged into the OLT . Even the local BSNL guy was annoyed by this. In all this , the customer suffers as he have to pay for the Rent of the modem which cannot be put into Bridge mode also sometimes.
