wrong forum. You have to ask Telephone exchange to activate Called ID facility. Monthly Charges may be levied. ( depends on the provider BSNl/Tata/Airtel etc ) Not sure. Please try correct forum.

There could be two possibilities:

1) Caller ID is not active on your line.
Solution: Call BSNL and request for CLIP activation.

2) Unsupported Caller ID spec in Cordless phone you are using.
Solution: Get a FSK-DTMF converter which costs around 150-200 bucks to make ur phone compatible with BSNL Clip service.

I had the second issue, bought a converter from mumbai around 3 years back for 250 bucks, working fine since then! :)

The converter is a small device in which u plug in ur telephone line and from that device u connect ur cordless phone. The device receives the signal converts it and gives it to the Cordless phone which then displays the Incoming number.

Refer this thread for more details: MTNL Landline CLIP
