I happen to saw CONG party ad made for coming Gujarat election. There they are showing how farmers are commiting suicide as they are unable to pay bank loans. Now how cong forgot about what's happening in its own ruled neighbouring state Maharashtra. Here farmers are in same situation and Cong is ruling. That's double standard by the party :madness:

Its the situation in almost all states in India. Agriculture is becoming an expensive and non profitable business. Unless the central govt. intervenes and implement some import tax on agricultural items like rice wheat and other grains, edible oils , processed food and sea products. Else this will keep on happening. The inability of the state governments along with the improper planning of the central government is leading to a scary situation in India. It will be a very dangerous situation if we depend solely on the imports. Imagine the days when Russia stopped the wheat exports to India and we were faced with famine. It was India Gandhi who saved the nation with the vision on food self sustainability. We need great leaders like her, not any puppet leaders.

reliance fresh and the upcoming grocery retail companies can totally change the scenario.

Good discussion above. But what abt the double standards use by political party(s). How can they criticise some party when they are commiting same mistake in their own govt in other state. Are people not aware?

People have gotten used to hypocrisies. The parties don't say anything because they know that the people know that they are indulging in doublespeak.@itsmeIt were socialist policies that put us in that position. I would suggest going the US or European way. But things are much worse there - farming being subsidised heavily. Unless you have large landholdings, farming will always remain a subsistence level activity for most people. Large farms + better technology = bumper yields.

The only solution to most problems is that if the law of the land if followed by one and all without any bias , everything will be in order

Large farms + better technologies. Its a very rare combination in India. We need someone like M S Swaminathan , Dr Verghese Kurian or E Sreedharan to do a magic in our agricultural sector.
