Cops in India are now tracking torrent downloads to catch pirates

I haven't downloaded a malayalam movie for a couple of years now. It's just the theaters or the dvd for me, though I only spend my money on the "new generation," low-budget, off-beat ones to support their effort. The big-budget, big-star masala movies I give a miss.

I don't understand. Ever since link-removed raid, filesharing websites have almost 99% removed pirated movies/games files from their servers. Even now if pirated movies are uploaded at all, they're removing it in span of 24hrs. Why block then?

its a open secret now , everyone spends GBs of bandwidth no one can spend more than 25Gbs per month legit , just watching youtube vids or other stuff .there are 1000 ways to get the movie file online , it wont stopit will just keep changingbtw , since the link-removed issue the files gets deleted shortly but no one stops a user from uploading it i dont know how many hits kat site is getting daily :D

Internet providers to begin warning customers who pirate content - CNN.com

A new alert system, rolling out over the next two months, will repeatedly warn and possibly punish people violating digital copyrights. The Copyright Alert System was announced last July and has been four years in the making.
If you use AT&T, Cablevision, Comcast, Time Warner, or Verizon as your Internet service provider, you could receive the first of one of these notes starting in the next two months.
The Internet provider is delivering the message, but the legwork is being done by the copyright owners, which will monitor peer-to-peer networks such as BitTorrent.
