3. Even if port-binding is off, phone number can be traced by looking at ATM frames [some layers below TCP/IP].
The question is whether BSNL does keep ATM frame records for past months for everyone, especially even in unsuspecting cases.

Its not abt BSNL, BSNL will usually outsource network deployment. And it is usually done with some SLA. Whoever is doing actual work, will keep logs just for CYA.

haha...port binding :P

i have an account for internet cafe and for home
because my isp tell that i cant use my internet cafe account at home

if u know how to use the account of my internet cafe to used at my home would you tell me ?

@uname If your location is Indonesia, and your ISP is different, please go through the thread. about 45 postings. ( 5 pages) Have you tried your modem ( name ?) used in your netcafe, in your house ?Some say it is possible , others disagree.Port binding : Your Telephone line is blocked to one BB acct. What ever the User ID, understand the server decodes it to your telephone number. For instance, in one ISP acct my ID is 04x4xxxxxxx_xx. ( my telephone number )I cannot change it. Another ISP has allotted essbebe. The FINAL WORD ?: see posting No38 by NETFREAK. IN THIS THREAD.

port binding is not active everywhere. infact it currently rare in dataone con. ya ur account is surely hacked..

@everyone here:Port binding or not, security is the state of your mind. If you're concerned enough, you would have a firewall up and running, would use WPA2-AES in your wifi network and implement MAC address filtering and possibly turn off SSID broadcast, to name a few of the security implementations. I have been online (dial up earlier and now bb) for the past 10 years. My acount has not been hacked a single time. Its really easy to implement a packet capture and then analyse interesting data like passwords. And if you think, you're going to get the BSNL to do something, dream on kid! They're the last people on earth who would help you out! AND PORT BINDING HAS NOT BEEN IMPLEMENTED EVERYWHERE. And if it has indeed been implemented, PPPoE and bridge mode would work only if the proper username and pwd is entered. You CANNOT, however, BYPASS port binding by using a bridge mode. And you cannot pull off somebody's password if u have access to his router from the management portal. I could go on, but I think I've made my point. If your login details are compromised, u can just sit n pray that nothin bad is gonna happen...

@everyone here:And you cannot pull off somebody's password if u have access to his router from the management portal.

It depends on router... some routers have password in plain text in HTML that is generated by router's admin pages.

I may stand corrected with ref to netfreak. Coz I have tried grabbin password on Linksys WRT54G router and failed, I assumed the same everywhere. I was told that I couldn't retrieve it anyway from the Linksys router. Thanks netfreak. But I stand by the rest of my crap. :P
