Planning to update my old 4th generation i5 setup. Here is what I have settled on so far.

ComponentPrice
Intel Core i5-12400 Desktop Processor (Onboard GPU)15300
MSI Pro B760M-P10400
Samsung 980 Pro 500GB6950
Corsair Vengeance DDR5 16GB 5200MHz x 29300
Total:41950

I might need to get a new PSU if older one does not work out well so that would add another 5300 for Cooler Master MWE 650 Bronze V2.
Not really looking for feedback or suggestions here. Just posting here in case, anyone has a similar requirement.

I wanted to get Asus Prime B760M-A D4 motherboard but pc guy cannot find it through his np sources so that lowered the price from initial expectations. I already have a cabinet I like, a PSU (SF 450 which might or might not work) and a recently purchased HDD.

Any reason you're not considering a Ryzen based build? It also has iGPU these days.

I wanted av1 decode support. Ryzen documentation is not very clear about that. Some reddit comments stated Intel performance is better than AMD with onboard GPU for playing 4k av1 video files. So just playing safe 🤷🏽.

Had the same issue, they don't even re-arm the key if you contact support.

Due to this, I don't update BIOS anymore and if I ever have to, I completely remove the license and move to evaluation mode and re-activate after update.

  1. Open a command prompt as an Administrator.
  2. Enter slmgr /upk and wait for this to complete. This will uninstall the current product key from Windows and put it into an unlicensed state.
  3. Enter slmgr /cpky and wait for this to complete. This will remove the product key from the registry if it's still there.
  4. Enter slmgr /rearm and wait for this to complete. This is to reset the Windows activation timers so the new users will be prompted to activate Windows when they put in the key.
This should put the system back to a pre-key state.

lol why can't they just provide a button to free up the license when you have a planned change of hardware planned. fucking shitshow.

We had already tried the slmgr commands. After running these commands and rebooting, It didn't accept the key that was used to activate.

Also, we removed the system from Microsoft account under the 'Devices' section and retried activating it via key. Even that didn't work.
